STANDARDS FOR JUDGES LOW

“Other sources give another viewpoint” (Derrick Fellows, October 11): Bill Clinton was a politician not a wannabe judge! There is a difference! You say the “liberal press apply double standards, according to their view of the alleged offender”. At least they don’t apply double standards according to colour, gender or sexual orientation!

John Finlayson, Brett Kavanaugh was more than just a little hot under the collar. What really matters though is that he revealed that he is very political (therefore biased and not impartial).

He [allegedly] lied about his drinking habits and the meaning of crude words he had used to demean women (and possibly a sexual assault).

The point is, he revealed that he is partisan and dishonest. This revelation of his true self should disqualify him from serving as a judge. Clearly the standard for appointing judges in the US is not as high as it is in Britain and SA. SCREWTAPE

RECEIVED BILL VERY LATE

I agree with Andy (“Metro accounts not received”, October 11). I received my municipal bill dated August 17 on October 10, the account payable before September 17. HELEN

SCULPTURE PURE KITSCH

One man’s meat is another’s poison. Well, the new so-called sculpture at the top of Donkin Street is pure kitsch (“Donkin feels the love of new sculpture”, October 12). Louwrens Westraad has done himself a great disservice. S WATTS
