Nelson Mandela Bay Triathlon is calling on all prospective participants to get in their entries for the organisation’s triathlon championships on Sunday.

With only a few days left to enter, triathletes will have the chance to pit their skills against some of the sport’s best competitors from across the Bay in the hope of being crowned regional champion.

The event, which gets under way at Pollok Beach, will see athletes choosing one of three competing categories.

The youth race will consist of a 300m swim, 10km cycle and 2.5km run.

The junior triathlon consists of a 750m swim, 20km cycle and a 5km run.

A senior, or Olympic-distance triathlon, comprises a 1,500m swim, 40km cycle and a 10km run.

The event features age groups from 12-15 years and 16-19 years for juniors, while the senior category caters for those aged 20 and above.

Only Triathlon South Africa-registered participants will be considered for team selection after these championships.

Included in the programme will be events for social and non-registered triathletes.

All finishers in these events will receive finisher’s medals, but not overall or age group prizes.

Racing gets under way from 7.15am for the shortest distance, while the sprint and Olympic distances will commence 30 minutes apart, at 7.30am and 8am.

Entries cost from R200 to R350 for Triathlon SA-registered athletes across the three distances.

Non-registered members, will pay between R250 and R400.
