Build bus stops so traffic not disrupted

-

As a user of the new bus and taxi system that is in place in the northern areas, it is very exciting to see that something more affordable is being put in place at a time when fuel prices keep escalating.

However, there are long queues during peak hours with no taxis available while the depot is full of taxis, and poor planning from the executives of the bus system.

The picture on the far left clearly shows how the traffic is being blocked by this 18m bus along the Salsoneville route, where no bus stops are available for the passengers, but it’s in full operation.

Sufficient bus stops are clearly needed for this massive bus at the September Crescent, Docco's Supermarket, Golden Fountain, West End and old fruit market bus stops (en route to Cleary Park), where nothing has been built or put in place so that these buses will not disrupt the traffic flow of other motorists.

We can clearly see how the bus stops at the Golden Fountain bus stop blocks the flow of traffic of other road users.

Left is a picture of Libhongolethu bus stop in Bell Road, in the Gelvandale area, which was recently built to accommodate the buses and taxis which will start running early next year.

Something is clearly amiss with the planning of this system.

Employ people with the necessary skills and qualifications who will plan ahead, and use the city's resources and finances in a smarter way. Wyndham van Vuuren
