Thanks for taking broken rail off road

- Noel Julius Gelvan Park, Port Elizabeth

With reference to the picture, left, this [damaged barrier] can be seen on the M4, travelling in a north to south direction, just behind the main post office.

I travel this road every day, twice a day.

On Tuesday at about 5.30am, I took my wife to the airport and saw a good Samaritan dragging a portion of the wreck of the barrier, which I assume had fallen onto the road surface, endangering motorists. Thank you sir.

In the not too distant past, I witnessed something similar happening on one of Cape Town's freeways, because I also travelled it more than once a day going to my daughter from the hotel we stayed at.

Commuting to and from, I noticed on the same day the municipal repairers repairing the damaged railings or rail guards.

So proud of you, Cape Town Municipality.

The point I am trying to make here is that on the same day, the damaged rails were given repair attention.

By the next day they were repaired and/or replaced.

Nelson Mandela Bay Municipality should take a page from Cape Town’s book.

These damaged rails have been there now for a few weeks and can cause serious damage to motorists’ vehicles. That is not the only one. Just a bit further back, to the north, on the same stretch, there are a few other rails that also have been driven into and need replacement, and they have been like that for months now.

At the Albany Road ramp onto the M4, there have been concrete balustrades hanging over the road section for years now already.

Just nothing seems to be done about it.
