REPLIES TO READERS’ COMMENTS

Regarding Asemahle Gwala’s letter, “SACP needs to influence policy” (November 15), communism is a failed ideology. Why doesn’t the SACP register as a political party and test the response of the electorate in next year’s general elections? Regarding your cadre, Blade Nzimande, he enjoys all the benefits of the evil capitalist system while wailing about the poor he is meant to be defending.

ALAN WILSON, PORT ELIZABETH In reply to Athol Trollip (“Expedite payments to SPCA for pound”, November 15): this shows what kind of municipality we have, if the SPCA has to be rescued by private and corporate businesses. If it can’t even pay the SPCA, then how can we expect it to look after/deliver services? When the DA was in charge, a person actually saw differences in the metro.

RJD “Municipal account puzzle” (November 14): thanks to The Herald R8,766.56 was paid into my account by Nelson Mandela Bay municipality. Thanks again. RESIDENT

POOR SERVICE FROM MUNICIPALITY

I am writing on the matter of poor service delivery from our Nelson Mandela Bay municipality. I have reported since September a blocked sewerage drain in my yard. The drain services four blocks of houses and I am the one that is sitting with faeces running down my yard.

When I phone 080-020-5050 I am told this is a matter of urgency, but no one comes out to attend to this drain. As a member of the community who pays rates and services I feel that the metro is violating our rights by failing to meet our needs and demands. NMBM, please prioritise.

I believe that the job cards are issued out on time, but the workers will only come out after hours so that they can claim money for overtime. This is ridiculous.

SUPPLEMENT A WASTE OF MONEY

Yet another very expensive supplement of Sanral published by the department of transport with taxpayers’ money in The Herald of November 14! Why glossy colour printing? That must be a very lucrative tender! Rather fix road infrastructure with millions going to waste like this. PIET

MUST BE JOKING!

“Buffalo City looks at Bay transport system” (November 15): you must be joking! This is surely “fake news”.

INCREDULOUS Buffalo City municipality wanting to learn from Nelson Mandela Bay how to implement a public transport system must be a joke surely! WS

LANDLINE CUT OFF

I received a call to inform that Telkom was changing to wireless phones. A courier drops a box containing the new phone at your house and before you even set up and charge the new phone, Telkom cuts off the service of your old one.

Three days and many complaints lodged ... and still no landline service! Unacceptable!

TOO MANY PUPILS IN CLASS

Violence at schools: if the education departments stop paying principals for every pupil taken on teachers will not sit with more than 35 pupils per class. Teachers struggle to maintain discipline once kids go over this number. The unruly kids then know the teacher is outnumbered because one human can only do so much.

HOME AFFAIRS A NIGHTMARE

Horror. Had to visit home affairs to collect my passport. Staff were unhelpful, arrogant and insolent. The office manager locked herself in her office and refused to come out. Staff were at lunch at 2.30pm. Counters were abandoned.

At the entrance it states that home affairs is waging a war on queues. No, it is waging a war against the people standing in the queues. The whole mob should be fired.

DISGUSTED Take a tranquilliser before going to the department of home affairs. It is a highly stressful and annoying experience. Staff should eat less and have their cellphones confiscated at work. They seem to have forgotten that they are employees. They do not own the place or the SA population.

They are not doing us favours. Training in interpersonal skills should be compulsory. Who do they think they are? God?

INVESTIGATE HAVING CHOPPER

What is the viability of having a police helicopter patrolling the metro? Wouldn’t that be an effective way of combating crime? HANSIE

SETTLERS’ BIRTHRIGHT STOLEN

So European settlers arrived and followed in the footsteps of the African settlers, then built a town and called it Uitenhage. Years later the African settlers decide to steal the European settlers’ birthright and name it after someone else, thus eradicating another race’s culture, memorials and achievements in the name of nation building. If the African settlers want a town named after themselves, let them build their own. A V C, UITENHAGE
