Festival celebrates film, stage graduates

AFDA Port Elizabeth is hosting a graduation festival this week with live performanc­es on Tuesday and screenings of five short films on Saturday.

Students graduating in Live Performanc­e will take part in the stage production programme of The River and The Bed at 2pm and 7pm at the Savoy Theatre. This consists of two production­s devised by the third year students.

The graduation films – one honours and four undergradu­ate works – will be screened from midday until 5pm at Nu Metro at the Boardwalk.

● Isikhalo: The Outcry: A rural young woman marries a suburban high school teacher but soon discovers he is not the man she imagined him to be. She begins a journey of courageous self-discovery.

● Sakhumzi: A man is finally let out of prison after 16 years behind bars, desperate to rebuild his relationsh­ip with his son.

● Birth of a Witch: Three girls come across a late-night adult film, which kicks off a wild night with a supernatur­al twist.

● The Yard: Eron and his friends are training for a soccer tournament when a family tragedy derails their plans.

● Sunset Exodus: A blind mother and her sickly son have an other-worldly encounter with death.

Tickets for the Savoy are on sale at the AFDA campus reception at R40 for adults, R30 for students and pensioners, and R200 for a block booking of 10.

Students are selling the film tickets and a limited number will be available at the door, at R20 per film screening.
