Festival celebrates film, stage graduates
AFDA Port Elizabeth is hosting a graduation festival this week with live performances on Tuesday and screenings of five short films on Saturday.
Students graduating in Live Performance will take part in the stage production programme of The River and The Bed at 2pm and 7pm at the Savoy Theatre. This consists of two productions devised by the third year students.
The graduation films – one honours and four undergraduate works – will be screened from midday until 5pm at Nu Metro at the Boardwalk.
● Isikhalo: The Outcry: A rural young woman marries a suburban high school teacher but soon discovers he is not the man she imagined him to be. She begins a journey of courageous self-discovery.
● Sakhumzi: A man is finally let out of prison after 16 years behind bars, desperate to rebuild his relationship with his son.
● Birth of a Witch: Three girls come across a late-night adult film, which kicks off a wild night with a supernatural twist.
● The Yard: Eron and his friends are training for a soccer tournament when a family tragedy derails their plans.
● Sunset Exodus: A blind mother and her sickly son have an other-worldly encounter with death.
Tickets for the Savoy are on sale at the AFDA campus reception at R40 for adults, R30 for students and pensioners, and R200 for a block booking of 10.
