Sonday’s 204 fails to save Willows

-

Not even a double century from Willows captain Mohammed Sonday could stop Salem from winning their clash in the Grahamstown first cricket league in Salem on Sunday.

After Salem had amassed 358, Sonday smashed 204 in Willows’ reply, but they went down by 53 runs.

For the home side, Buster Brotherton (60), Mark Amm (47), Brad Wilmot (44 not out), Nicholas Zimmerman (44) and Chris van der Meulen (39) all contributed with the bat.

The Willows bowlers were far too wayward, with Ruwayne Brooks returning the best figures of 4/62.

Sonday put the Salem attack under pressure as he hit nine sixes and 24 fours in his knock, but they were eventually dismissed for 305 in 43.4 overs.

Ivan Marais (3/55) and Amm (3/64) were the best bowlers for Salem.

League front-runners Southwell continued their good form with a nine-wicket win over Cuylerville, chasing down a challenging total of 259/9.

Taylor Ntukela (52), Jeremy Beyleveld (40) and Steven Gornal (34) led the way for Cuylerville, while Murray Hobson picked up 4/50.

Southwell chased down the target with just more than five overs to spare as Chris Fredericks (101 not out) and Greg King (114 not out) manhandled the opposition attack.

After dismissing Makana for 227, Sidbury passed their target with five wickets down.
