Port Elizabeth will host some of the best horse riders in the country when the Back on Track Youth Championships is hosted in the city next month.

The event, which will also incorporate the South African Youth and Junior Championships, will see the best individual riders take to the courses at the PE Riding Club in Lorraine for the eight-day event which gets under way on December 7.

Competitors will ride in a number of disciplines, including show jumping, showing and equitation.

Coming in from across the length and breadth of the country, the event will see riders participate in the individual events and then pull on their provincial colours for the team events.

Club chair Charles Roberts said: “This show was last hosted in PE in 2013, and we have just over 237 riders entered to compete for these prestigious titles.

“We are both privileged to experience this high level of riding in our city, and to gain substantial economic benefit in our community by being afforded the opportunity to host this show,” Roberts said.

The PE Riding Club has urged Bay residents to come out and experience the class and elegance of the future champions of the sport.

Food and other vendor stands will be on offer and entertainment will also be provided.

For spectators, there will be free entry for the duration of the event.
