SELECTIVE COMPLAINTS

Why is it okay for a black person to call himself or herself the “k” word or even other black people, but if it comes from another race then it is racism? Have you noticed that it is only the black people who moan about racism? What about the coloureds, Indians, Chinese and whites who endure the same remarks? ANTHONY

BE HONEST ABOUT DONATION

“What’s cooking with rice donation?” (December 10): we expect the councillors to be honest about this donation and expect to see the list of the organisations it was donated to. I have a funny feeling that this rice has already been disposed of. We expect answers. VICKY GELDART, BLUEWATER BAY, PORT ELIZABETH

ENJOYED TELKOM FINAL

I just want to say congratulations to Baroka FC. On Saturday I enjoyed myself, me and my girlfriend. PE rocks.

PICTURE OF WOMEN DISGRACEFUL

What a disgrace – three half-naked women on the third page of The Herald (December 10). Remember children also read newspapers.

REPLIES TO READERS’ COMMENTS

Not even the editor noticed the sarcasm in the question posed (“Party affiliation”, December 11). Lance Grootboom certainly does not represent all residents in a specific ward. Nevertheless, Andile Lungisa provided the relevant answer.

RESIDENT “Bus disrupts traffic” (December 13): how many times has this been reported to the traffic department? The mayor and traffic department are the same. Nothing has been done. Maybe they are waiting for action. Then the taxis and buses are the innocent people because they are angels of the road.

MANIE “Beachfront filthy” (December 6): yes, we agree with Ian. Ever since ward 2 changed councillors it has steadily got dirtier and less cared for. The gardens are full of weeds and uncared for. The litter is maybe 40% collected. We want Dean Biddulph back!

SON THE VICTIM OF CRIME

Be very careful. A guy about 27 years old with blond hair caught my son out with his TV. Took it and said he would put the money in the bank, and never did. How do you sleep at night doing this to innocent people? My son was retrenched, now this.

UPLIFTING STORIES

Much of what I read in the papers makes my heart break, so it behoves me to say that little Thimna’s story (“Child makes miraculous recovery”, December 11) and the story about the little buck found in a garden and all the trouble that family took to get it saved (“Blue duiker bucks nature with garden visit”, December 9) makes me believe in my fellow man and their amazing love again. Regards and lots of love to all involved in these stories.

OLD FLAG SET TO BE BANNED

“State backs move to ban old SA flag” (December 11): to the ANC, first get rid of all your corrupt and incompetent members, which is top priority, before you ban the old SA flag. You can see under the ANC we are getting worse than Zimbabwe.

LEON Yet another red herring to detract from the Eskom crisis. CITIZEN Banning a flag won’t stop issues like murder, rape, robberies, hijackings and hundreds more. Everyone worries about small things, but doesn’t worry at all about crime. L MCLEOD Just another red herring to draw attention away from filthy beaches, Eskom crisis, crime rate, SAA debacle, inept post office – list is endless, but let’s concentrate on the old SA flag! What a bunch of morons! DISGRUNTLED CITIZEN, WALMER, PORT ELIZABETH

MAKE SURE THERE’S ENOUGH CASH

The post office branch managers must plan in advance with the stokvels to have the monies available on withdrawal dates.

UNHAPPY WITH THE HERALD

Matiwana’s respect for The Herald is misplaced (“Respect The Herald”, December 11). It introduced the WhatsApp facility and did away with the SMS line to save itself money and inconvenience those who haven’t got a WhatsApp facility on their phones.

KENNETH

The Herald closed the SMS line as it was hardly used by readers in recent months. As can by seen by the size of the Chirps column since the introduction of the WhatsApp line, the facility is popular with readers. Those without access to WhatsApp can still send SMSes, but to the WhatsApp number. – The editor

Your system of sifting our chirps is very diabolical because if one criticises or disagrees with your Vuyo Mvoko, you don’t publish that, but if he or she agrees with him, you are quick to publish that. Treat us all equally. I contribute to your revenue by buying your paper religiously.

MZWANDILE MAVUSO, MOTHERWELL, PORT ELIZABETH

The Herald has received no chirps critical of Vuyo Mvoko’s column. Any reader who has sent such a comment and not seen it published is asked to resend it. – The editor

Please let The Herald publish the Sevens results whether NZ wins or loses.

ANDILE LUNGISA

Marius Fransman was suspended because of allegations, but Andile Lungisa is still there, even after being found guilty in a court of law. Double standards.

OBSERVER Andile Lungisa is at it again. In 2013 Lungisa was given R2.5m for the R Kelly concert under Makhanda Music Entertainment. The charges were dropped. Five years on and he is still at it. NOT IMPRESSED

LAND BELONGED TO KHOI AND SAN

“Expropriation report adopted” (December 5): as ANC MP Stan Maila said, the sin is as old as when Jan van Riebeeck set foot in the Cape at 4am on Saturday April 6 1652. The Khoi and San people can now claim the whole country which belonged to their forefathers. I hope the coloured people can stand together and reclaim what belongs to them. BRUINMAN, EASTERN CAPE

GIVE US A CHRISTMAS PRESENT

I am just wondering if transport operators will decrease the fares (Algoa Bus and taxi) just to help their poor supporters with a nice Christmas present (just a thought).
