-

Sidbury and Cuylerville ended the first half of the Grahamstown Cricket Board first league on a high note with impressive wins over Manley Flats and Willows.

The competition now heads into the festive break.

Cuylerville took revenge on Willows after they lost in the first round at Shaw Park, winning by 122 runs on the St Aidan’s field in Grahamstown.

Batting first, Cuylerville posted a mammoth 351/6 in their 50 overs, led by centuries from Richard Muir (140) and Brandon Handley (101).

Charlie Muir scored a hurricane 61 towards the end of the innings. They dispatched the Willows bowlers all over a relatively small field.

In the circumstances, Melville Daniels produced an exceptional spell of 1/18 in 10 overs.

Liam Agnew (2/76), Cole Wessels (1/50) and Marquin Loutz (1/73) all took wickets, but were expensive.

Willows started off badly and never recovered against some accurate bowling.

All-rounders Luvane Daniels (57) and Marquin Loutz (52) were the top run-scorers and Abner Accom also chipped in with a fine 36.

Steven Gornal (3/38), Jamie Renton (3/30) and Taylor Ntukela (2/58) led the way for Cuylerville as Willows were dismissed for 229.

Sidbury enjoyed a five-wicket win over Manleys, controlling the match from the outset as they dismissed their opponents for 151.

Ryan Harley (32), Anton Ferreira (30) and Jono Davy (24) were the best batsmen for Manleys.

Bryce Howarth (3/43), Rory Roth (2/21) and Greg Evans (2/24) impressed with the ball for Sidbury.

In their reply, Sidbury started positively through opener Greg Evans, who struck a flamboyant 79. The Savage brothers, Hugh (34) and Cliff (16), caused further damage and finished the match off in style to ensure they collected a bonus point, reaching their target in the 35th over.
