Exciting time for punters with three meetings ahead

- Punters’ Pal

The horse racing year in the Eastern Cape is going out with a bang, with three meetings in eight days at Port Elizabeth’s Fairview track.

This time of the year is always exciting for punters nationwide with some quality racing in the Friendly City and the Summer Season in Cape Town also in full flow.

The meeting at Kenilworth in Cape Town on January 5, featuring the Queen’s Plate, is one not to be missed.

Although it will be a small field there are some tremendous animals that will be facing the starter to compete for the total prize money of R1.5m.

On the same day, some champion fillies like Oh Susanna and Front & Centre will be taking each other on in the Paddock Stakes.

For now the focus is on the Fairview meetings, starting with an action-packed ninerace polytrack meeting today.

On Monday (note the earlier-than-usual start at 11.40) the highlight is the running of the Memorial Mile.

The date for the Memorial Mile has been pushed back a bit this year. It gives Monday’s meeting an exciting look and we have a Cape Town visitor to spice things up a bit.

Star Chestnut will be the horse to beat. Champion trainer Justin Snaith and jockey Richard Fourie will make sure the Bay challengers will have to work hard to beat the raider.

Trainers Alan Greeff, Yvette Bremner, Gavin Smith and Tara Laing are all enjoying a wonderful season.

At the last Fairview meeting, Bremner had three winners. Her stable has also been winning races in Johannesburg and Cape Town.

The Smith stable is also in good form and Greeff is on his way to yet another East Cape trainer’s title. Punters’ Pal tips Fairview PA R432 3/1-4-7/1-4-5/2-3/4-7-8/2-34-6/1-2 Pick Six R1536
