Expect better from councillor

-

I am amazed by the appeal made to be cautious with respect to fires after the devastating fires in Cape St Francis.

This after we have been struggling to obtain satisfactory service with the local councillor for Seaview. We informed councillor Jason (Grobbelaar) that an individual was dumping branches on an open plot in the area.

Then what looked like the fire chief, in his official vehicle, was allegedly spotted there on November 14 taking photographs. Lo and behold, the branches are still there and the response we received to this was that the individual who is dumping, obtains a trailer on a monthly basis in which the “dumped” material can be removed.

However, the branches have been there for well over two months and have dried out to be perfect kindling for a fire. The councillor provides this, what we consider, ridiculous response that supposedly dried-out branches are not a fire hazard, in addition to the fact that he or the municipality are then allowing certain individuals to dump on others’ property. He now also suggests that one must now lodge an “appeal” to his finding at his offices, on his allowing of dumping to take place on private property.

It seems he is favouring the individual who is dumping illegally. We retain his response in case we suffer the same fate as that which has occurred at Cape St Francis. The elections are nigh, dear councillor.
