Ward councillor clarifies fire safety issue
With regards to the letter in The Herald dated January 7 2019 “Expect better from councillor”, please find the below clarifications.
● The resident (Responsible Citizen) was informed of the outcome of the investigation from the fire safety officer from NMBM fire services on December 12 2018. The report was dated December 10 2018.
● The resident states this report as my findings. This is incorrect, the report is the findings of the qualified NMBM fire safety officer, which were stated as such when sent to the resident. ● The resident was not happy about the report’s outcome and I asked the resident to put it in writing in order to lodge an appeal via e-mail or written letter, to which the resident refused and stated he would rather write to The Herald to see what a story in the Herald would do to me, than waste his time further.
● I have been back to the area in question after the resident raised his concern, to do oversight, and today (January 7) again. The resident has the right to appeal the report should he believe there is cause to appeal. As previously stated to the resident, I will write to the fire safety officer to inspect the area again to establish that there is compliance as per the original report provided, dated December 10 2018.
