THANK YOU TO UNIFORM DONORS

Followed Professor Jansen’s advice. Union of Jewish Women paid laybyes for school uniforms. Parents so grateful to find uniforms settled for 2019. Grateful thanks to our wonderful donors. Elaine Racussen

DREADFUL CUSTOMER RELATIONS

Having come through immigration SA style – unwelcoming, surely Jonathan Jansen was so surprised and delighted by the usual “Welcome to my office” gambit that he rewarded the toilet attendant handsomely. What a reflection on our customer relations which generally are dreadful. Airport checkin just as bad. Everyday example: hypermarket checkout. Sometimes a robot greeting and card request, then back to the conversation with the packer whom you are interrupting. Hence Jansen’s response.

BEING WHITE NOT A BAD THING

What’s so bad about the colour white? The sharks are white, I’m white. So what?! Jan

ANSWER TO NOISE DISTURBANCE

Fantastic picture of the stadium. People must see what it looks like on the outside after a soccer match. It never looks that way after a rugby match. But back to December 31 – the noise was so loud that as far up as Parsons Hill we could not sleep and it carried on past 2am. Please, next shift the venue to the communities who benefit from these concerts and mayor Bobani and Mr Lungisa, could you answer why all these wrongdoings occured? Resident

BLIND EYE TO HEAVY DRINKING

Trevor Davies, your plight is everyone’s concern. I personally witnessed heavy boozing along Beach Road on New Year’s Day. This happened while SAPS and metro police drove by. With this kind of attitude, signs like the one in the photo make a mockery of law enforcement.

ANIMALS ‘SUFFER’ FROM COLOUR

To Gone Fishing, I totally agree. There are black and white Rhinos, lions and elephants. Calling an animal white/black is favouring one colour above another. Alas, such is the way of the country we live in. And we’re not even talking about the blue crane or the pink flamingo. RJ

AFRICAN DEMOCRACY A MORASS

Justice Malala’s uncalled for insults about Brazil’s new president are in fact the exact actions we need in SA to pull us out of the morass we find ourselves in, thanks to our wonderful constitution. African democracy has spelt our end. Ivan Skovar

GIVE VOICE TO LOCAL READERS

Cape Town mayor Dan Plato doesn’t warrant space in your Chirps column which a local reader could have put to better use.

MAIMANE’S PROMISES NO GOOD

It would be disastrous for the electorate in the Western Cape if they believe in Maimane’s promises. De Lille’s treatment should serve as a cue to voters not to be misled by those promises. ANC supporter

PRISONER NOT THE ONLY ONE

Why does the correctional spokesperson only single out one prisoner? What about the names of the other prisoners who were found in possession of unauthorised items?

TRAFFIC DEPARTMENT CLOSES EARLY

Disappointed in traffic department. Three times I’ve gone to check for my card. Application was done three months ago. Every time the gate closes before the time.

THEY HAVEN’T LEARNT MUCH

Years ago it was decided by the government education department that students should be called learners. Well it seems if they themselves haven’t learned much as now when 10 learners enter grade one and only one makes it to a questionable matric and passes, the success rate is 100%.

STATE DROPPED BALL MANY TIMES

Government has dropped the ball on real transformation. You might as well have said the government has dropped the ball on every single thing that it has sunk its sticky fingers into, bar self-enrichment.

TORN UP ABOUT LARGEST SA FLAG

I missed the largest SA flag, so went to check. Gentleman at the Donkin tourist office told me I should contact the military to find out why it no longer flies. He suggested it may be torn. Our new SA huge problem that we don’t do maintenance until too late. I return home to Port Alfred tomorrow . . . sad.

EC EDUCATION DOES NOT DELIVER

We must once again read about Eastern Cape schools not receiving stationery, school furniture and teachers at the beginning of a new school year. Pathetic to say the least as this has happened for the last how many years with normal empty promises. It’s about time the we got rid of dead wood in the provincial government and education department.
