Madame Speaker gets second shot

- Punters’ Pal

The talented local filly Madame Speaker gets her second chance in 10 days today to get in the winners’ box at the Fairview race track.

Madame Speaker is the strong favourite to win the feature race, the Aloe Handicap for 3-year-old fillies, over 1,300m.

Ten days ago she was no match for the Cape Town visitor Platinum Class in the Lady’s Bracelet, but this time Madame Speaker will be a very popular banker for the punters.

Klever Kathy is also in fine form and looks to be the only one that can give the favourite a run for her money.

Madame Speaker (race 7) is not the only banker possibility at the meeting of nine races on the polytrack.

Royal Kiss (race 3), Lloyd George (race 4) and Nifty Fifty (race 5) also look hard to beat.

January is another very busy month at Fairview. The Aloe Handicap should be an exciting affair and there is the Fairview Merchants on January 25 to look forward to.

The Merchants will start off a big racing weekend in SA with the R5m SunMet the main attraction at Kenilworth in Cape Town the next day.

After last weekend’s brilliant performances at Kenilworth, all indications are that the Met will be a great race.

The Met field will be announced on Monday, with the barrier draw on Wednesday.

It is no surprise that the winner of the Queen’s Plate, Do It Again, is now a shortpriced favourite to win the Met but it won’t be a one-horse race.

Oh Susanna won the Paddock Stakes in fine style and will also do battle in the Met.

Oh Susanna and Do It Again were both ridden to victory by Richard Fourie at his very best.

He will combine with Do It Again in the Met.

Port Elizabeth will be represented on Met Day in one of the other big races, the Cape Flying Championship.

The 4-year-old filly Princess Rebel, trained by Yvette Bremner, will be taking on the best sprinters in the country.
