CURT ALCHIN MEMORIAL RACE

The eighth annual Curt Alchin Memorial Race will be held at Victoria Raceway on Saturday January 19 with classes for Junior Hot Rods, 1660s, 2.1 Modifieds, Heavy Metals, Pinkrods and American Saloons. Gates open at 3pm, racing starts at 6pm. Entrance is R50 for adults, R20 for children under 13 and track parking is R20 per vehicle. There will be foodstalls. Inquiries: Maggie, 082-656-8830.

VOETSAC HIKING CLUB OUTINGS

The Voetsac Hiking Club is walking the 9km Roseate Tern trail in the Cape Recife area on Saturday. This hike is open to all, rated easy and costs R5. Voetsac is taking up to 12 hikers on a excursion to Waterkloof, also on Saturday January 19. This route of 12km is graded as a moderate hike and participan­ts are asked to pay R61. BONSAI MEETING

The Eastern Province Bonsai Society will meet at the Sherwood Garden Centre in Walker Drive at 1.45 for 2pm on Saturday (from February the monthly meeting will revert to the second Saturday of the month). Bring a tree which you think may be suitable to bonsai. Beginners and intermedia­te growers will be catered for. Non-members welcome, donation of R10 (includes refreshmen­ts).

MOON WALK AT CAPE RECIFE

On Sunday January 20, Sanccob will lead a walk to the Cape Recife Lighthouse to watch the sun set and the full moon rise. The event starts at 5.30pm, with a short welcome talk at 6.20pm before leaving at 6.30pm. Sunset is at 7.29pm and the moon rise is at 6.59pm. The walk is R50 for adults and R30 for pensioners and children. Food and snacks will be available from the Flying Penguin Cafe. Bring a torch in case a cloud blocks the moonlight. COOKIE CLASS

The Baking Tin in Perridgeva­le Shopping Centre will be having a Valentine’s Cookie Class on Saturday from 1.30 to 4.30pm. The class costs R100 and booking is essential. Inquiries: 041-363-0271.
