Graeme in good nick against Muir

-

Graeme College defeated Muir by eight wickets after restricting the Uitenhage team to 79 all out in their schools cricket fixture on Saturday.

In reply, Graeme had to bat well under pressure.

Mornay Kohl and Aaron Richardson got them off to a good start and Garwin Dampies combined with Romario Fritz to take them over the line.

In the Grahamstown Schools Festival, Graeme made an excellent start against Hellenic Academy from Harare, Zimbabwe, after the visitors did well early on in the game.

Lakhanya Sam led the bowling attack well and built good pressure up front, but it was Mihlali Kobese (2/6 in 5 overs), who made the initial breakthrough.

From there it was Graeme’s spinners who dominated.

Richardson picked up his best bowling figures for the first XI in a superb spell, finishing with 4/37. Hellenic ended with 103. In reply, Seth Faltain (25) combined brilliantly with Richardson in an opening stand of 52.

Richardson took his team home by eight wickets with a flawless knock of 52 not out.

After losing to Somerset College on the second day, when Graeme could make only 75, the third day was completely different.

Graeme decided to bat first against Cambridge and batted superbly.

Richardson (23) put on an opening stand of 62 with Kohl, which set a solid platform.

Kohl was superb, showing his potential before being dismissed for a fine 76.

He combined well with Dampies (63), who batted with great maturity.

Graeme declared after lunch on a total of 244/6 from 65 overs.

What came next surprised. Siphesihle Madlongolwana had just returned from successful stints in the U19 Coke Week and the Cubs Week, and he and Lakhanya Sam (3/15) blew away the Cambridge batting lineup.

Madlongolwana was simply devastating, picking up the phenomenal figures of 7/7 in six overs. Cambridge were bowled out for 26, giving Graeme a 218-run win.
