A seven-year-old KwaNobuhle girl was grazed by a bullet when two men broke into her house and shot dead her father.

Police said while the motive was unknown, they were investigating another possible gang-related hit.

Lunga Pongoma, 35, who had been in and out of jail, was shot in his bed as he slept.

Police spokesperson Sergeant Majola Nkohli said the shooting had occurred at about 2am in Dalindyebo Avenue.

“Two men forced open the bedroom window, climbed in and shot him in his bed.

“A bullet grazed his sevenyear-old daughter [who was in the room] in the upper body.

“She was taken to hospital and is said to be fine,” he said.

“His 15-year-old daughter, who had been asleep in another room, alerted the authorities.”

Nkohli said Pongoma had been arrested several times for a string of cases, including hijackings.

However, he had no pending cases against him.

Last week, nine hit-style murders were reported in the Bay over a seven-day period.

Police suspect some of the cases are linked to SMMEs, while others are linked to witness killings and internal fights among gangsters.

They are all being investigated by the provincial organised crime team.
