Clueless bowlers

-

I wonder how many cricket enthusiasts would agree that nowadays bowling coaches and bowlers in general are inept, that is, pretty clueless, when it comes to their adopted strategies.

Why is it that only when it comes to death bowling do bowlers adopt the yorker length approach?

It is so much easier to set a field to these deliveries, despite batsmen being so innovative nowadays.

Short and wide seems to be the norm, with balls being despatched to the boundary at will by batsmen who relish pace on the ball, especially on wickets where the ball grips and turns – that is, more suited to slower ball deliveries or the yorker length approach!

Are bowlers and bowling coaches just plain stupid, because this is my humble opinion, and the opinion of many other spectators who watch the shorter version of the game.

Junior Dala (who will never become a “senior” Dala) to be honest should never even be in a Proteas squad, never mind starting eleven, Chris Morris, Beuran Hendriks and Dane Patterson are some of the prime offenders of this unacceptable approach.

As for the current “dumbest” of them all, Usman Shinwari, with bowling figures of four overs, no maidens, no wickets for 63 runs, thanks for handing the Proteas an unassailable lead in the current T20 series being played in South Africa.

Obviously it would be very devious of me to think of match-fixing in this day and age, or not?

Finally, while on the topic of cricket, all I can say is thank goodness I am in control of the volume button on my remote when Makhaya Ntini and Mike Haysman are on air – bring back Charles Fortune any day, for pity sake!
