Willows bounce back against Port Alfred

After losing to Port Alfred in the first round, Willows bounced back to hand out a heavy defeat in their return clash on Sunday in the Grahamstow­n first cricket league.

Batting first, Willows overcame a bad start to post a total of 268/9.

Romario Fritz (49), Edrich Pieter George (48) and Marquin Tom Loutz (26) repaired the early damage before Melville Daniels smashed 81.

Rob Nel was the best bowler for the home side, taking 2/56.

The Willows bowlers sent Port Alfred tumbling to 34 all out, with Winston Johnson (6/8) and Cole Wessels (4/20) doing all the damage.

Sidbury used a strong batting display to surprise logleaders Southwell by 86 runs after making 348/9. Archie Chirinda (80) and Mike Lourens (78) led the way.

In their reply, Southwell’s Daine Kruger (88) and Kyle van Niekerk (76) tried hard, but the Sidbury attack dismissed them for 262.

Greg Evans took 3/41, while Ronny Roth, Lourens and Bryce Howarth each picked up two wickets.

Cuylervill­e defeated Salem by 109 runs after making a decent total of 312.

Charlie Muir (122) scored his second century for the season.

He was well supported by captain Steven Gornall (57), Richard Muir (63) and Brandon Handley (29).

Chris van der Meulen (75), Jonty van der Meulen (36), Simon Amm (23) and Kevin Bennett (20) all tried hard with the bat for Salem but they subsided to 203 all out.
