Early lead for VP, Wembley

Victoria Park and Wembley B held a narrow advantage after the opening round of the Nelson Mandela Bay men’s premier tennis league on Saturday, winning by similar margins.

The format for this season has been changed, with matches being contested over two singles and a doubles, meaning there is little room for error.

VP and NMU split the singles matches by identical margins – 6-0 6-1 – but the former took the major share of the points when Zander Theron and Jacques Jenner won the doubles clash after dropping the first set in a tiebreaker.

The Wembley derby resulted in a victory for the B team.

After sharing the singles, Luke and Matthew Stuart combined forces to edge Hugo Chandler and Joel Pretorius in the deciding doubles.
