Graeme blow hot and cold

-

Graeme College had mixed fortunes on the cricket field at the weekend, losing to St Andrew’s in the national Twenty20 competition but winning their match on Saturday.

In the second fixture, Graeme hosted the Alice U19 Regional Performance Centre.

Batting first, Graeme scored 194/8 after their 50 overs.

It was a decent score but kept both teams interested in the result. Aaron Richardson top-scored for Graeme with 47, while Raven Bush made a valuable 43 not out at the end of the innings.

Sese Tumuyaza (3/28) and Tayi Bosch (2/21) picked up several wickets for the Alice RPC, but it was the spinners who applied the most pressure.

The combination of Lwando Shoba and Longeziwe Sgila conceded only 52 runs in 20 overs, while also picking up two wickets. Sgila got the Alice RPC off to the perfect start and batted for the majority of the innings. His 56 set the perfect platform for the visitors.

The Graeme spinners also managed to claw their side back into the game.

Garwin Dampies and Richardson combined for 17 overs, claiming four wickets and conceding only 64 runs.

In the end, the home side managed to snatch victory with a tense 19-run result, with the visitors losing their last four wickets for 14 runs.

Only the U15B team managed to get a win over St Andrew’s at the weekend, while the Graeme junior sides fared much better against Westering.

The visitors, though, managed to sneak an exciting onewicket win over Graeme in the U13A game.

Graeme claimed good wins in the U9, U11A, U11B and U13B matches.
