Darlings!

If I didn’t know better, I would swear 2019 was a bolt of lightning in disguise. Can you believe we’re almost wrapping up the second month of this year while it feels like it was just yesterday that we yelled “Happy New Year!”

Anywho, hopping on the fast-moving train, your gossip gal was at the Fresh Poetry event held at the Athenaeum on Friday and, to my surprise, the crowd presence was quite solid for a poetry event on a Friday night.

The do brought together poets from Johannesburg, Cape Town and some of our own.

Holding the Bay flag high were PoeticSoul and Sihle Sofute whose impeccable talent I only discovered in 2018.

Now, apart from event pioneer and MC Herald Moyo’s [inserts yawn] speeches in-between performances I was impressed by the performances.

And, if my observations are correct, audience members like Thulani Vazi (looking dapper as always) and friends Snazo Fanie and Nothukela Ngakane were just as impressed.

What was rather unimpressive though was the slow services delivered by stall holders LingwiQi who sure took their time and kept us queuing for their (sadly) virgin cocktails.

Who wants a non-alcoholic drink on a Friday night anyway?

Moving on to more intoxicating dos, Skinner checked out the Queer Valentine outdoor event at Posh Lounge on Sunday and, as always, it was booze galore.

I’m told the event is singer Andy Ndlazilwana’s idea to get the Bay’s LGBT+ community together to celebrate their own Valentine’s Day.

It seems, however, that some members of the said community were either not too keen, unaware of the event or not ready to get out of the closet yet as the event was not well attended.

Whatever the reasons may be, Skinners says take your time dolls, I hear Andy is hoping to make it an annual do.

Those of us who were there jammed to the live performances of LoveChild, Andy and Asanda Mqiki and sang our lungs out although I was a bit disappointed to find out Ndu from the Clan could not perform due to a family emergency. Be that as it may, each performer brought it down!

On Tuesday, Skinners went to the pre-screening of the anticipated movie What Men Want at the Boardwalk NuMetro.

Although the name itself put me off (because, erm, this girl’s price of bread is not affected about what that other gender wants), I was pleased to find out it’s not quite what it sounded like.

To avoid completely spoiling the movie for you, all I’ll say is we laughed our behinds off.

Let’s catch up next week, dolls. Party hard but don’t let Skinnerbek catch you getting up to no good.

Ciao!
