Cape filly Epic Storm may be the banker

- Punters’ Pal

It might be the third Friday in a row that the visiting Cape Town stable of trainer Candice Robinson helps the punters with a banker at the Fairview race course.

There are actually five Cape Town stables represented in the Friendly City today but the banker, at least for the Place Accumulator, could be the Bass-trained filly Epic Storm in the fifth race.

Bipot players can start with a banker in the first leg as the two-year-old filly Brandina, trained by Alan Greeff, looks like the best bet on the day.

The feature race is the Lady’s Pendant for fillies and mares and is the main reason why there is a lot interest from the Cape Town trainers.

It is good to see the support from Cape Town for racing in the Friendly City, especially as there is a big meeting on Saturday at Kenilworth with the Diadem Stakes topping the bill.

The Lady’s Pendant should be a really exciting and competitive race.

It is not easy to pick the winner but expect a good showing from the local runners Mary O’Reilly and Carlita.

Among the visitors it is again a Bass runner that catches the eye. Although carrying top weight, Freedom Charter is a huge runner.

For the previous two Fridays, jockey Bernard Fayd’Herbe was in top form with the Bass runners, but he is overseas now.

It was lovely to watch him doing his stuff but top jockeys Richard Fourie, Lyle Hewitson, S’manga Khumalo and Muzi Yeni will no doubt be competing for the ride of the day.

It should be really hot racing but hopefully not too hot, because we might have the meeting cut short, as it was last Friday – a first for racing.

But no-one can complain when decisions like this are made in the horses’ interest.
