FILTH AROUND CONCERT VENUE

Went to the Feather Market Centre for the EC Philharmonic Orchestra concert on Saturday evening. Really impressive. SA does have talent.

Shame that the air conditioning was broken. Pity that we had to wade through garbage, human waste and weeds to get to the entrance. Disgusting. Refuse, filth and decay visible everywhere is not [acceptable] in a civilized society. Shame on mayor Mongameli Bobani and everything he stands for.

H FRAHM, KRAGGA KAMMA, PORT ELIZABETH It was a wonderful musical interlude at the Feather Market Centre on Saturday. Shame that the approaches to the venue were clogged with human waste and weeds. The air conditioning at the venue was not working. Disgraceful. The one of very few venues that brings in revenue for the city is left to rot.

G COLLINS

On Saturday evening I attended Music @ the Market in the Feather Market Centre. The performance was excellent. However, who is in charge of the venue?

Who maintains it? Who cleans it? Would it be totally outside his ambit to clean up the surrounds and approaches? Or would that not be his job?

During interval a patron stated that the air conditioning had been stolen. I don’t know if she was surmising or stating it as a fact. But the perspiration on both the orchestra and the patrons attested to the fact of its absence. Mongameli Bobani: no pride. No standards. No shame.

IVAN SKOVAR, BRYMORE, PORT ELIZABETH

Attended the Richard Cock concert on Sunday. What a dirty city we are living in.

Last year it was such a pleasure with people milling around, food trucks and a marquise on the Market Square. This year a few food trucks in front of the hall. What a letdown.

Our Feather Market Centre is falling apart: a hole in the ceiling in one of the passages, the carpet ripped. What next? Mics not working properly. What next – our beautiful organ and piano will be destroyed? How can we encourage tourists to visit our once beautiful city? Cry the beloved country. Our forefathers are turning in their graves. LUNGISA ALLOWED TO GO TO CHINA

Andile Lungisa’s bail restrictions are relaxed for a jaunt to China. Is there one law for the ANC and one for the rest of us?

BOBANI AWAY ON TRIP

Mr Bobani, will your trip stop people burning buses?

Mongameli Bobani is on a holiday in China, my China. As for Isuzu and the Kings, they are both rubbish. Thanks for the five Chippa supporters at NMB Stadium. DD

NO RISK OF WET PAPER DELIVERY

I too wouldn’t be happy with a soaked newspaper, but like many others I live in a secure village at no risk of receiving a soaked paper and surely the distributor who has been delivering here for many years has noticed. NOEL BELL

WHY NO ARRESTS?

I keep on asking myself regarding the shooting between gangsters (Amagintsa) why the police don’t make arrests? Because each time they have a burial they are firing shots in the air in the presence of the police.

Why don’t the police check those guns if they are legal or illegal? Because I do believe those guns are illegal.

Major-General Dawie Rabie, tell your people to do their job properly or more blood will be shed.

LOAD-SHEDDING

Is the recent spate of load-shedding due to Jacob Zuma and the Guptas [allegedly] stealing the money meant for maintenance? Are the “new” power stations technically inadequate due to Mitsibushi/ Hitachi giving JZ “commission” and skimping on the construction specifications?

Could it be due to the millions of tons of coal being sent to China to pay the interest on the big loan? Maybe just a combination of all three “thieving birds of a feather”?

DON’T VOTE FOR CORRUPT ANC

I’m very concerned about our people who are still voting for the corrupt party, look all of them. Now we work hard for our earnings. Why all of a sudden do we have to be taxed to pay debts? These people must pay back the money.

R10 increase in social grants, R80 for pensioners, what an insult. Are you going to vote for them? I’ve been an ANC member all my life, but will never vote again. MPS

Agree fully with Walmer resident (“Great service with no shouting”, February 20). SPAR Eighth Avenue, Walmer is notorious for its unruly cashier staff. They need to get professional advice from the cashiers and management at the SPAR in St Francis. MJ

CLEAN UP THE CITY

Filthy city. How do we attract tourists to PE, where this once upon a time clean city is now a disgrace? The people just don’t have any pride and are happy to live in these conditions. Every festive season the mayor wants to put on his badge and do something.

Does he not understand that it’s way too late for that? This cleanup operation is there to be done all year round and it creates permanent jobs for all. RESIDENT

TAKING TAINTED MONEY

Devastated, Catherine van Rensburg, that it doesn’t bother you that [allegedly] stolen money was used to support your shelter (“Bosasa blow for PE baby shelter”, February 21). I am sorry for the little ones, but what values are they taught – it’s okay to steal? LU
