RATHER ROUND UP STRAYS

Would the time of the metro police be better spent rounding up the stray animals on the N2 than hiding behind bushes manning speed traps? MOTORIST

WON’T SHOP IN AREA AFTER FINE

Parking in Govan Mbeki Avenue: fined R300 for literally parking in a loading zone for no longer than 15 minutes. Will not return to do shopping in that area again!

TAXI JUMPS THREE RED LIGHTS

Driving down Russell Road at 6.45am on Wednesday a taxi went through not one, but three red robots. Just a month ago two young women from Atlas were killed when the same happened. Surely those families have the right to sue the metro. Where are our law enforcement officers? THE BULL

CITY HALL LACK OF SECURITY

City Hall security: why are you surprised at the lax security, Mongameli Bobani, when you are in charge and walk through those doors every day? Surely by now you should have noticed the total lack of security.

I was there two weeks ago for a Central security meeting called by Sandile Rwexwana and I too just walked in without my identity being verified, completing a register or being searched. You are a real muppet.

CENTRAL RESIDENT

Mongameli Bobani, back from China, suddenly seeks a security contract. BOB

Mongameli Bobani, what’s with all this security talk? You said this was the safest city in the land. BEB

LIGHTS UP OUR WARD

A big thank you to Chanelle Stander in the ward 5 councillor’s office for once again going the extra mile. Whenever this woman attends to one’s needs it’s done in such an exemplary manner and with the utmost compassion. May your infectious smile, civility and humanness continue to light up our ward. KEEP CYCLISTS OFF PUBLIC ROADS

Cycle races on public roads: the photo in The Herald dated February 28 (“Changes for Knysna races”) tells the whole story on cycle races on public roads. Totally disregarding traffic rules applicable to cyclists. F1, MotoGP, rally, etc drivers do not race on public roads. Why cyclists? Stop complaining and adhere to the traffic rules or use cycle tracks. O G, JEFFREYS BAY

SKEWED VIEW ON REFEREES

“Referees reassigned” (February 28): is Saru still looking at where did you play, or where do you come from? Or am I seeing a biased and win-at-all-cost picture, a so- familiar sight from the north of SA! Jaco Peyper, Marius Jonker and Mark Lawrence, to name a few, and lately Quinton Immelman, had careers of refereeing filled with huge flops, but I don’t think they were reassigned after a game!

In NZ Glen Jackson does officiate Auckland Blues games and in a final, but the “Broederbond” of SA Rugby has a funny way of rearing its ugly head. It’s food for thought for our trigger-happy sport commentators ( Kobus Wiese) and our newspaper sports columnists. NICO F

STILL WAITING FOR REPORT

We still waiting for a detailed report as to why we cannot board the cruise liners in Port Elizabeth harbour. We know they take years to make decisions. CURIOUS

PLACE OFFICERS AT INTERSECTIONS

Traffic robots on the R75 at both the Chatty dip and Johnson Road have been out of order for quite some time now, and the traffic in the mornings and at night is chaotic, to say the least! Can’t they send pointsmen to these spots please? That is after all what they are paid to do! Not just sitting or riding around in the cars wasting petrol that we, the taxpayers, pay for.

RESIDENT, DESPATCH

NON-EXISTENT LINES A DEATH TRAP

Could the traffic department please repaint road markings in Cape Road? There are no lanes, no yellow lines, etc. In rainy weather it’s a death trap. Also in Marine Drive, one cannot see the speed bumps and pedestrian crossings. Two main roads.

THANKS FOR TAKING DOWN LIGHTS

Thanks for removing the festive lights in Uitenhage. DESU

DANIELS A DISGRACE

Talk about a drama queen! Marlon Daniels, you a disgrace to your community and you give it a bad name! OOM RAY

WHY TOURISTS STAYING AWAY

Out of control crime in the CBD is the main reason for tourists now staying away.

READER Drop in visitors: they may be put off by invisible road markings in Summerstrand. Very dangerous. Shocking neglect.

IDEAL SPOT FOR BUSINESS

Since the former Gqeberha High School in the Govan Mbeki township on the corner of the R75/Uitenhage and Chelsea roads has been looted to the ground, that prime spot could be utilised for business. In a nutshell, a Shell or BP or Sasol garage could be built on that busy intersection, incorporating a small shopping complex to reduce unemployment, crime and hopelessness in the Gqeberha and Veeplaas areas.

CHARGE CLEANING TO ADVERTISERS

“Have posters removed” (March 1): the government should appoint a private company to remove and clean all the adverts on its property and hand the bill to the advertisers, then you will see how fast they will remove the posters themselves.

MANUEL SAT IN ON MEETINGS

So Trevor Manuel comes across as squeaky clean during the state capture inquiry. Amazingly, this same comrade sat on all the arms deal committees. Never said a word. Sies! You sleep with dogs, you get full of fleas. ROB B

METRO COULDN’T CARE LESS

My gardener informed me on Friday that he had reported water problems in Mbethe Street, KwaNoxolo, Bloemendal in December last year and again this year. Apparently there is now a very large hole in the road. Seems our municipality expects citizens to use water sparingly, but it just couldn’t care less. Promises, promises . . ..

EXPLAIN SEWERAGE CHARGE

Can the NMBM please explain how the sewerage charge is calculated monthly? After various inquiries to the municipality I am still not the wiser as no one can assist with the exact calculation details.

Three dogs left in a closed car at Something Good at the beach. A car guard found the owner and opened the window. All car guards should do this. BETTIE

METRO SHOULD BE ASHAMED

Sies! The metro should hang its head in shame for allowing the Feather Market Centre to fall into disrepair. If it can’t even look after its own property, how can it take on the many owners of derelict buildings and overgrown properties? Do what we pay you to do or get out!

G***** RESIDENT

I attended a magnificent show at the Feather Market Centre, but the air conditioning was not working. We sweated our way through. The poor performers were suffering. Please fix this, metro. ANNIE
