LACK OF RESPONSIBILITY ANGERS

And still, after months, no response from the department of roads or the construction company that caused the damage to paving at our family home and the road in front of our driveway. Extremely angered by the lack of responsibility. HOME OWNER

STUPID REGULATION

How can driving without a licence incur four points on a licence you don’t actually have? Another great piece of ANC parliamentary work paid for by taxpayers. Scrap Aarto. MOTORIST

COUNCIL MEETING

“Council got through long agenda” (March 5): Rory Riordan, you seem to have forgotten to mention the so-called scuffle in chambers several months ago where a DA member was assaulted with a jug of water, had to be attended to by paramedics and then taken to hospital to have his head wounds attended to. This to my way of thinking was not a way to hold a council meeting.

IT MILLS Council shambles! What an absolutely disgusting performance from the NMBM councillors in the last council meeting. If their behaviour had taken place in school they would all have been expelled! To think that this bunch are collectively paid R74m a year makes my blood boil.

To have convicted criminals (like Andile Lungisa) having any power over decisions made on behalf of intelligent ratepayers could only happen in this “banana republic” since the ANC came to power via one man, one vote. We are truly on a path of ANC enforced self-destruction. SANDY

WHY CAN SOAPIE?

Why has SABC3 done away with The Bold and the Beautiful? We have so little to watch as it is.

VIEWER What has happened to The Bold and the Beautiful? Can’t Democracy Gauge 2018 be scheduled for, like, 11pm? I’m sure hundreds of thousands of people are wondering the same thing. SYLVIE, MAKHANDA

COULD HAVE PILOTED ESKOM

SAA shocked at pilot’s 20-year deception: perhaps he could have steered Eskom better than the ANC over the same period. BOB

LEAKING METERS IGNORED

Save water now! This is what you see around PE. Go around KwaNoxolo and there is clean water running from the damaged meters. Every concerned person is reporting these meters, but all falls on deaf ears. It is as if nobody cares what is happening in those areas because you can’t even see the workers who used to count or not even one of the municipal persons cares.

I have reported meter problems at Duka Street since October last year but till today it is the same. No one cares. I called the chief operating officer. Hayibo, they said he was on leave. People, stop telling us about saving water and you do nothing when we report these water issues. A CARING RESIDENT

START AFRESH

Advice to SABC: cancel all outstanding fines to licence holders and let them start on a new slate. Then you will see how your revenue will magically increase. GARY GOOD

TAXI RANK STINKS

Not healthy at all is the taxi rank at Korsten. It stinks like hell. The toilet has been closed since last month. The woman who cleans the toilet is nowhere about the taxi rank next to Mercantile Hospital. Municipality, please do something. It is not healthy. People are relieving themselves anywhere around the taxi rank. CITIZEN TAXI DRIVER

NOT A SUNSET

“Tranquil scene” (March 6): I don’t want to sound petty, but since when does the sun set in the east? The photo in the paper depicted a tranquil sunrise. Beside the fact that the sun does not set in the harbour, it would disrupt shipping. It sets on the horizon in the west, last time I looked.

H J FRAHM, KRAGGA KAMMA, PORT ELIZABETH The “tranquil scene” in Wednesday’s Your Views is surely a sunrise over the harbour, not a sunset on a calm Saturday evening? Or has the world really been turned upside down? READER

WELL DONE TO STUDENT

Eckhard Binding, I take my hat off to you. The EFF, who kept trashing the place, you are a disgrace. CLIFF

RETIREMENT LONG OVERDUE

So Imran Tahir wants to retire after the World Cup. He is five years overdue. He should have done so a long time ago. Him not retiring early is not giving the many young spin bowlers a chance to get the necessary experience and time to develop.

If he is so good, why couldn’t he make the Pakistani side? I fail to understand our national selectors. Mr Tahir, please retire before the World Cup and give our upcoming spinners a chance to prove themselves. ADAM, PORT ELIZABETH

IS THIS A WORLD CUP TEAM?

Are we going to World Cup with this team?

FRANK If Aiden Markram is not in the World Cup team, I won’t watch and I’ll maybe support Australia. ALAN, PORT ELIZABETH

EASTERN CAPE BUDGET

Another year, another budget, another plan to fix the Eastern Cape. The ANC should hook up with the Southern Kings and use the same excuse book.

OBSERVER “Jacked-up civil servants vital to Oscar’s plan on how to fix the East Cape” (March 6): so how is it possible to have a couple of hundred thousand lazy, incompetent civil servants all of a sudden do the job they are paid to do? Impossible! GECKO

WHY WERE SEATS EMPTY?

I attended the Albert Hammond show at the Feather Market Centre on Wednesday night and what an awesome show it was. Very annoying to see three empty rows at the end of what I assume was the golden circle. When I booked my four tickets on February 25, these seats were shown as sold. Why?

I cannot imagine that three rows at R340 per seat were sold and that all of these people were “no shows”. Who were the organisers and can they please explain? DIANNE BARNARD

WHY TEACHERS NOT APPOINTED

Perhaps some teachers are not appointed at some schools because they are highly unionised and strike at will, and are often absent from class plus are loath to coach any sport. IAN

MAKE MORE DEMANDS

Methinks protesting students should go the whole nine yards with their demands. Monthly salary, car allowance, attendance bonus, clothing allowance – the potential is limitless. And we can all straighten bananas for export as there will be nothing else left. JAN BOCEK

DURBAN ROAD A LAWLESS MESS

Mr Mayor, please get out of your fancy office and come to Durban Road to see for yourself the lawless taxis or are you waiting for some tragedy to happen? Parking bays are taken up by furniture and vegetable traders. Where are your so-called traffic officers? Please Mr Mayor Bobani, you must come to see the chaos yourself. NABIL SHAH, PORT ELIZABETH
