PLAY IN NEW BRIGHTON

Nelson Mandela Bay playwright Xolisa Ngubelanga’s new play, Broken Lens, will be performed in the small hall at the Nangoza Jebe in New Brighton on Friday and Saturday March 8 and 9 at 7pm. Featuring actors Xolani Ngesi and Fiks Mahola, Broken Lens commemorat­es legendary photograph­ers such as George Luse, Peter Magubane and others. Ticketes are R60 (R40 for students).

FRIENDS AT THE MUSIC KITCHEN

Several Bay musicians will play in That’s What Friends Are For at The Music Kitchen on Saturday March 9 at 8pm. WATER PAGEANT

Auditions are being held for Mr and Miss Water Ambassador at NMU North Campus Auditorium on March 8, 9 and 12 at the Port Elizabeth city hall, Nangoza Jebe Hall in New Brigthon, Uitenhage town hall and the Ray Mhlaba sports centre in Motherwell respective­ly. The pageant aims to encourage men and women from 18 to 25 to address the ongoing water crisis in the Nelson Mandela Bay metro.

QUILT EXHIBITION­S

The Dias Quilters’ Quild is hosting the 10th SAQG Travelling Exhibition of Quilts at the ArtEC Gallery, 36 Bird Street from March 11 to16. Gallery hours are Monday to Friday from 9am to 4pm and Saturday from 9am to 1pm. The exhibition consists of quilts selected from entries in “We Create” in 2017. Entrance is free. ART ON TARGET

PARKRUNS IN PE

Take part in one of four parkruns in Port Elizabeth: PE Hobie Beach, Lady Slipper, Wells Estate and Sardinia Bay. The parkrun is a 5km fun run at 8am every Saturday, which is free and open to all but if you want a time please register for a barcode at www.parkrun.co.za. The Hobie run starts at the palm tree next to Shark Rock Pier; Sardinia Bay is at the Grass Roof in Heron Road; Lady Slipper is at Slipperfie­lds, and Wells Estate is at St George’s Strand. TEA AT LAKE FARM

The Voetsac Hiking Club host both weekend hikes and day walks on a regular basis. Longer hikes are held several times a year. The day walks are held on Saturdays.
