Local favourite gives PE chance

- Punters’ Pal

Surely this is one for the locals!

The Cape Town raiders have been cleaning up in the big horse races in Port Elizabeth in recent times, but will battle to win the Breeders Guineas at Fairview on Friday.

This race for three-year-old fillies is the feature on an exciting meeting on the turf track.

Well, on the turf at this stage – the polytrack is on standby and Phumelela East Cape manager Luciano Passerini advises punters to keep an eye on the weather as rain is predicted.

There have been some interesting challenges for track manager Charles Newcombe and his team at Fairview recently.

A meeting was cut short due to extremely hot conditions and last Friday the jockeys forced a reconfiguration of the course after protesting about some patches on the outside of the track they regarded as dangerous.

The rain may change the race conditions on Friday but at this stage all nine races will be on the grass.

Three Cape Town stables will be involved in the main race.

Trainer Andre Nel scratched his runner, but will still be bringing four runners to contest some of the other races.

The Cape Town visits were a hot and controversial topic in social media this week.

Some pointed out that they do not fill up the fields at the Cape Town meetings but target Fairview to take the prize money away from PE.

The supporters of the Cape Town visits reckon anyone can take a horse to any centre and that better horses are good for healthy competition and give the betting pools a boost.

The debate adds even more spice to Friday’s action and things will surely get very exciting, even heated, at Fairview.

Local filly Madame Speaker could give the PE supporters something to smile about. She is a favourite in the main event.

Cape Town trainer Glen Kotzen won this race in 2018 and is back with two runners.

Candice Robinson and Justin Snaith are the other visiting trainers.

There could be the necessary improvement from the visitors to grab this one, with the Robinson-trained Star Fighter probably the danger.

With the help of the Cape Town raiders we tipped you a nice Pick Six last week and they look strong in many of the races again today.
