LEAKING FOR YEARS

It’s been two years now that I drive my wife to where she is working and I see this water leak. The water keeps on leaking day and night 24/7. It’s on the circle in Soweto-on-Sea where the Algoa buses and taxis turn. PAT MALI

REPLIES TO COMMENTS

“Beautiful woods bulldozed for townhouses” (March 13): Birdy, where the heck are you referring to? Nowhere in your long letter do you indicate where the woods to which you refer are.

GORDON UPTON

What excellent ideas, Pat Kondile (“Create better access to stimulate tourism”, March 14)! I hope the MBDA and municipal councillors are taking note. That is the way forward.

ANNAMARIE VAN DEVENTER

Student Boy Menzi Shongwe (“Address affordability”, March 12) should get his previous student comrades to repay their student funding loans and then there should be enough money for the present students.

CHOIR, BAND DELIGHT

The sheer exuberance and joie de vivre of the band and the unofficial choir at St George’s Park for the fourth ODI was delightful to witness, especially as I was seated nearby. To witness 200+ flag-waving supporters unabashedly singing in joyful harmony filled me with optimism for what a great nation this can be. RALPH FELL

LUNGISA APPEAL

Andile Lungisa seeks emancipation in the high court! Why has he not been tried for the money the municipality paid him for a concert that was never held? Whatever happened to that case?

SHANNI What's next, convicted criminal Andile Lungisa comparing himself to Jesus Christ? Put the thug in jail now. This farce of an appeal has gone on way too long. READER

NEED LUCK TO WIN

The Kings are playing very good rugby this season, whereas they are always on the losing side. For them to play their rugby with the teams from the northern hemisphere is a very big challenge and I must be honest I’m begging to see a light at the end of the tunnel.

There is absolutely nothing wrong with the coach or players, but the only thing that is missing for the Kings is the luck to win the games.

OVERPOPULATION

“Quarter of all deaths due to environmental damage” (May 14): the Global Environment Outlook (GEO), six years in the making by 250 scientists, refers to overconsumption, pollution and food waste leading to hunger, poverty and disease. Has the GEO considered that the underlying problem in the making is the worldwide overpopulation? One does not have to be a “scientist” to arrive at this conclusion.

But because overpopulation is a sensitive issue this problem is never broached by the United Nations and other government organisations worldwide, resulting in environmental damage due to overpopulation will not be resolved. BRUNO

ANY INTEREST?

The call by councillor Mbulelo Gidane for the new stadium to be taken away from the management of the MBDA and given to a private facilities management company (“Call to take back stadium from MBDA”, March 15) refers. Could your journalists please check whether Gidane, his supporters in council or any of their family have interest in such a facilities company? CONCERNED

CRUISE REQUEST

Because of a personal interest in the MSC Cruises not docking [and picking up passengers] in Port Elizabeth and other massive ships docking here, I sent quite a few SMSes to the general manager of MSC Cruises. It does not have a contract to pick up passengers at PE because it only has contracts for three ports and PE is not included.

I know Cape Town and Durban are in, but the other I do not know. Also, why ships sometimes stay over in the PE bay I do not know! They plan their voyages approximately two years in advance, so that is how long we in PE have to wait for them to make a change. I have a feeling that once we may embark here, they will certainly be overbooked! AMR
