Developers must go green

-

We are mourning the loss of our green corner of earth.

With the ominous increase of climate change, we need to do all that we as individuals can do.

We can’t do too much about fossil fuels and coal-fired power stations, but we can plant trees and encourage others to do so to mop up some of the CO².

We are sad to see trees and birds go in the wake of the development of townhouse complexes and the like.

I suppose one cannot stand in the way of so-called progress, but the least developers could do is have a thought for the environment, not to mention the souls of the residents, and plant some trees and shrubs.

Do a little more greening than instant lawn, which dies anyway because it has been planted with no thought.

Yes, there are gorgeous green country living estates but my complaint is against the developers of cookie-cutter townhouse complexes, who do the bare minimum and rush off to the next project, having made their quick buck.

Townhouse-dwellers, often with their lock-up-and-go attitude, are almost as bad and few pay any attention to outside areas . . . oh, they might install a braai . . . but something green? Not a chance!

However, I was asked why I do not state what area I am speaking about. Simple.

This is the ant taking on the rubber tree plant.

The developers are a lot bigger than me.

David might have klapped Goliath but I don’t fancy my chances if I tried to take them on.
