Teams jostle for crown in tight NMB league

In the closest race since the inception of the Safa-NMB SAB League, teams continue to jostle for pole position.

Madibaz Football became the log leaders on Friday with a close 1-0 win over previous log leaders PE Sundowns.

On Sunday, the students were held to a 1-1 draw for the second time in 2019 by School of Excellence.

Meanwhile, Sundowns thrashed Roaring Tigers 4-1 to regain their position at the top of the log.

It was a disappointing weekend for Tigers, who lost 3-2 to Highland Spurs and dropped two places to seventh.

Camper blew their chances of becoming log leaders when they lost 3-2 to Young Teenagers on Saturday.

They recovered on Sunday to beat FC Winners 3-0 to remain third, just a point behind Sundowns and Madibaz.

Motherwell Academy were the biggest winners over the weekend.

They beat Sibanye Colts 1-0 and Major Chiefs 2-1 to leapfrog six places to fifth.

Struggling Bush Bucks also had an excellent weekend, beating Golden Aces 1-0 and drawing 1-1 with Amarhamba United.

The top four teams in the Peefa Marina Salt Premier League retained their places with easy wins at the weekend.

Log leaders United Brothers beat Real Aces 3-1.

Young Aces, who are three points adrift, beat Mighty Birds 2-0, while Peace Lovers – the only team in the top eight to lose their match – went down 3-1 to Real Lion.
