NO TRAFFIC OFFICERS TO BE SEEN

Where are the traffic officers in our metro? Never to be seen on duty unless top politicians, sportsmen, etc are visiting the city, then they are out in full force, and to be seen at every intersection and robot from the airport to Summerstrand! The only other time one catches sight of them is when they are out shopping or picking up children from school!

Surely with the present load-shedding disaster causing total havoc at the main intersections in the metro it would not be too much trouble for the chief traffic officer to work out a schedule and get these “hardworking” municipal employees out of their comfort zones and doing what is expected of them! The present situation is totally dangerous and unacceptable!

DRIVER

Peak traffic during load-shedding: the only traffic officers I saw were putting up a speed trap. Is that all they do? Point duty too much like hard work.

MOTORIST

ELECTRIC CARS NOT VIABLE NOW

No electric cars for us! Isn’t it ironic with all the talk of electric cars for the very near future, most of us don’t have electricity to cook supper, and revert to wood and charcoal for the braai. Typical ANC Africa – backwards into the future.

COMPANIES LOSING MILLIONS

Mr Ramaphosa, how do you expect foreign countries to invest in RSA, with loadshedding going on? We are losing millions per day. As the CEO of a large company, we have to lay off staff. BUSINESS EXECUTIVE

ANGEL OF DARKNESS VISITS AGAIN

The angel of darkness is visiting us again – load-shedding at stage four with Eskom now blaming Cahora Bassa Hydro in Mozambique. Ten out of 10 for a new excuse. Eskom, for our country’s sake, cut the c*** and do the right thing.

Ditch affirmative action and employ the competent “old boys”. You don’t have to say sorry. Let’s do what needs doing and save SA! MIKE, BRYMORE, PORT ELIZABETH

CRIME RAMPANT IN THE DARK

Our elderly are the easy targets of thugs and gangsters as they (thugs and robbers) are also fully aware of the load-shedding times. The Louis Dubb Old Age Homes were the latest target, where they got in through open gates that work with a remote control.

Station commanders of nearby stations, if they want to curb violence on the elderly, can think to employ a police van or two, and then they get some exercise and get out of the vehicle and do some foot patrol, for the safety of the elderly.

No need for Bheki Cele to come and bark orders or must we really ask the president to look at how crime and load-shedding really go hand in hand?

It is sending shivers to the old aged, when they hear that word! Let’s be proactive and see some action from our so-called leaders!

NICO F During load-shedding, if a criminal takes advantage of the darkness where normally there would be light, can Eskom be sued for aiding and abetting a criminal offence? I should think so. GORDON UPTON

TOO MUCH POWER?

Numsa – common sense shedding: how in the world can Irvin Jim and Numsa contend that IPPs have caused an oversupply of power? Seriously? Totally illogical when we have load-shedding.

The fact remains that a secondary energy producer would not only employ most of those potentially retrenched from Eskom but would at least provide back-up to the current unstable grid.

Numsa/ANC should be charged with treason for destroying and delaying extra power generation. ECG

SHOULD BE SURVIVOR DAY

Human Rights Day? A more fitting name would be Human Survivor Day!

DA ABOVE STATE CAPTURE

“Who to vote for not an easy call” (March 15): what a ridiculous question. What political party has all the answers for every potential voter? But stating the facts, the ANC has disgracefully captured and bankrupted the country through corruption and what is done about it?

And the question is who to vote for! The DA, as with all political parties, has infighting, but thankfully is above state capture. Does that answer your question, Bryan Rostron? VOTER CONFIDENCE

DON’T WE WANT THIS?

The DA says the Western Cape has the highest number of households living within 30 minutes of a health facility. If this is true, don’t we also want this for our poor and sickly? Why will we still be voting for people who close clinics and show the gangsters that they get the better of us?

LOSS OF WORLD SERIES

There was no need to write an editorial asking whose is to blame in council for us losing the opportunity of hosting the Fise World Series. Simply look who is our mayor and who supports him!

IAN Is this what we have (Noxolo Nqwazi plus committee) running the show for the sporting events for NM Bay? The amount of monies that could have been gained. Do we need persons like this to try to implement things? One thinks not. The host fee that was put forward must be paid back from her own pocket.

CONGRATULATIONS TO QESHILE

Congratulations to Sinethemba Qeshile for making the Proteas squad and I know it was not an easy road to travel. Now he has managed to make the cut through his hard work and dedication, he must stay focused in his cricket. He should always keep his head down and not to be big-headed.

Because he is Protea now, many life coaches will appear in his life to offer their assistance to destroy him. He should guard against that. I’m praying that he gets excellent guidance so that he can remain in the system for a couple of years to come. It is very difficult to get a batsman of his calibre and I’m wishing him all the best in his cricket career.

LET READERS BE THE JUDGE

After the resounding ANC victory in 1994 Nelson Mandela said to the effect that the ANC was ecstatic about its victory and all the ANC had to do was prove it was capable of ruling SA. I say no more. Let the readers be the judge. R D ALLIN, PORT ALFRED

WHO TO BLAME

Dear S M (“Soccer fans treated poorly”, March 20), I sympathise with you about the difference in beer prices and parking areas compared to other events at the NMB Stadium. In my opinion it can be a number of issues: it’s either favouritism, racism or the stadium officials are scared of another soccer stampede or we can just blame it on apartheid. It must be one of the above.
