Brandina looks hard to beat in the Nursery

-

The fillies dominate Friday’s meeting at the Fairview horse racing track.

The main event on the turf track is the East Cape Fillies Nursery, where 12 two-yearold fillies will be chasing the total prize money of R150,000.

In the Oaks Plate for threeyear-old fillies there will be a smaller field of seven runners aiming for the bulk of the R80,000 up for grabs.

There are strong favourites in both these races but it is not race over yet.

In the Nursery, the very promising Brandina, trained by champion Alan Greeff, is certainly a worthy favourite and should be very hard to beat.

There is a raider from Cape Town, though, to watch.

Chasing Queen (Dan Katz) looks like the only danger to the favourite but the locals would be very confident about keeping this one out of the hands of the visitors.

My Miracle, trained by Yvette Bremner, is the strong favourite in the Oaks Plate but Greeff could also have a say.

He saddles Bushiri and Jaleika, which should give the favourite a run for her money.

For punters looking for bankers on the day, Brandina and My Miracle are the options, along with Viking Moon (race 1) and Fashion Force (race 2) in the early races.

It will be worth it to be at Fairview for the first race to take a look at Viking Moon in a Juvenile Plate.

This two-year-old colt made an impressive winning debut in February and it will be interesting to see if there is further improvement.

The first race last Friday was also one that created a lot of excitement.

It was a Maiden Plate for work riders and this type of race always has huge crowd support.

Lucky Mkhwambi won the race with the filly Melandia but the debut of Kyle Strydom, riding for the stable of his dad Jacques, drew a lot of attention.

Keep an eye on the talented Kyle in future.

There has been no shortage of drama recently at Fairview and this week there was a short-lived illegal grooms’ strike.

This was due to a misunderstanding and everything is on track for Friday’s eight races.
