Sundowns out to even score with School of Excellence

- Mogan Segadavan

PE Sundowns will be hoping to make up lost ground when they play School of Excellence in the SAB League soccer competition at the NU2 Stadium in Motherwell on Friday.

The previously undisputed log leaders are now being chased to the wire by Madibaz.

Last week, the students beat Sundowns 1-1 to become the log leaders.

However, it was short-lived as Sundowns thrashed Roaring Tigers 4-1 to regain the position on goal difference after the students were held to a 1-1 draw by School of Excellence.

In the first round, Sundowns lost 1-0 to School of Excellence, who are outside the top eight.

Madibaz will be in action against Camper United at the NU9 Stadium in Motherwell.

With a match in hand, Madibaz are second, just a point ahead of Camper. They drew 0-0 in the first round.

Motherwell Academy, who are the form team in the league, play Young Teenagers at the Mawabo Dyubhele Stadium.

With maximum points from their last four matches, including a 2-1 win over Sundowns, Motherwell have had a meteoric rise up the league table and are now fifth.

In the first round, Motherwell and Teenagers drew 2-2.

With most of the teams playing double-headers, there could be significant changes on the log in the Peefa Marina Salt premier league this weekend.

United Brothers, who have a three-point lead at the top of the log, play Young Teenagers on Saturday and Rainbow City on Sunday. Rivals Young Aces play Leeds and Teenagers. They will expect to pick up maximum points against Leeds.

With Dower United promoted to the Safa Sasol women’s league, new champions will be crowned in the Safa-NMB soccer competition, which kicks off on Saturday.

On last season’s form, this leaves the door open for Madibaz and Volcano Ladies, who were the only two teams to challenge Dower.
