Records tumble at powerlifting champs

A total of 15 Eastern Cape athletes have qualified for the SA Classic Powerlifting Championships later in 2019.

They secured their qualification slot after competing at the Eastern Cape Classic Powerlifting and Bench Press Championships earlier in September.

In total, 31 lifters, including nine newcomers and seven disabled lifters took to the platform across various divisions, taking home a number of medals and accolades.

In the women’s section, first-time lifter Colleen Brown, competing in the over 84kg category, broke four provincial records to claim gold in the sub-junior division.

Other notable performances in the sub-junior section saw Charne Feuth claim three provincial records in the under 63kg weight category.

In the men’s section, Francois Spamer, also taking to the platform for the first time, claimed gold in the sub-junior over 120kg weight category.

The SA Classic Powerlifting Championships are to be held in Potchefstroom in December.
