Greeff looks set to cash in big-time
TRAINER Alan Greeff looks set to win the Walmer Handicap for fillies and mares over 1800 meter at the Fairview Polytrack tomorrow.
He saddles three runners in the nine-horse race and it won’t come as a surprise if he runs first, second and third with Ontenderhooks, Meryl and Delia’s Delight respectively.
This means Greeff can walk away with the bulk of the prize money that is at stake.
Ontenderhooks is the stable-elect with Greg Cheyne in the irons.
The daughter of Dynasty was full of running when she skipped clear to win by 4.50 lengths earlier this month.
The easy way in which she defeated Lateral’s Flash is an indication that she can follow up with a fourth career victory for Mauritzfontein (Pty) Ltd.
Ontenderhooks will also carry just 55,5kg compared to the 59kg of last time.
It will be her fourth run at Fairview after previously being trained by Candice Bass-Robinson.
Meryl is a four-time winner and by no means out of it.
She beat some useful fillies and mates last time and needs the utmost respect.
Charles Ndlovu retains the ride.
Delia’s Delight is also doing well. She has Wayne Agrella up and finished only 1.10 lengths behind Meryl last time and can contest the finish.
Ontenderhooks can also be regarded as a Pick 6 banker, while punters might be tempted to ad Meryl in their Jackpot perms.
Trainer Tara Laing can get punters off to a winning start when she saddles Thomas Shelby in Race 1.
The former Johan van Vuuren charge made a good debut for his news yard when he finished second, 1.25 lengths behind Humanitarian on 30 August.
Chase Maujean takes over the ride from Teaque Gould and looks set to move out of the maidens on the fifth time of asking.
The last leg of the Pick 6 normally has an unexpected result in store, but this time it will come as a surprise if the winner’s cheque does not go to Big Fish or Mio Grande.
However, keep an eye on the betting of Tom ‘n Jerry.
Race 1 is a Maiden Plate for all maidens over 1000m and is off at 12:25.
