I just want to say, if you had a large amount of savings and you were approached by someone saying he can double your money, would you not think twice or talk to your bank manager before you did something utterly stupid? No-one in financial circles can offer that kind of return in such a short time. I’m sorry, but these people must be absolutely stupid to think otherwise. That’s my view, what say you?

BRIDGE NAME SUGGESTION

Baakens Bridge — call it Out of Nowhere Bridge. It comes from nowhere and is going nowhere.

NAME CHANGE CHOICES

Name changing — I think the dress code of Khoisan will match and fit perfectly at Kruger National Park. The airport will be a big contrast — walking will keep them fit and an aeroplane will make them lazy. The best is to stay in the bush and enjoy happy hunting.

NO SURPRISE

Xenophopbia — I am not surprised with the ongoing xenophobia when we are constantly reminded by DSTV what they are doing for foreigners but nothing in SA. Remember, charity starts at home.

SHORTER LETTERS, PLEASE

Under your “Letters to the editor” page you state specifically that preference will be given to short, concise letters. Yet, in Wednesday’s Herald, the whole page has only three letters. Roger Tainton competes with Tuesday’s correspondent Ismail Lagardien as the most verbose waffler of the year. Please publish short, concise letters.

TIME FOR CHANGE

NMBM will only be able to become a functioning municipality when people who are honest, corruption free, and care about people, are voted in. Time to vote ACDP for all the above.

QUESTIONABLE DEMOCRACY

‘Don’t you just love the Democrats in the USA? They spend millions to elect a president and because he was not their choice they are spending millions more to try to get rid of him. Looking closer to home — does the world really deserve democracy?

GOOD NEWS SORELY NEEDED

What are the chances that one of these days we open the newspaper and find lots of GOOD news instead of murders, rapes, corruption and political shenanigans. Fat chance, I imagine, but to quote from a Julie Andrews song “wouldn’t it be loverly”.

SHORT-SIGHTED TREATMENT

Regarding license renewal frustration, I had the same experience. I could not see anything through their lenses and was referred to an optometrist across the road. I went to Spec-Savers at The Bridge instead. My eyesight was found to be close to 100%.

TRAFFIC OFFICERS MISSED

To the minister of transport on the road carnage, last Wednesday we undertook a road trip to from Port Elizabeth to Welkom and back, approximately 1,800km. It was most surprising that on the entire journey we only saw one law enforcement officer and that was just outside Cradock, on the return journey. He was parked at the roadside. On the “up” run we did some truck counting between Nanaga and Colesberg. We counted 382 trucks travelling in the opposite direction towards PE. We did not bother to count after Colesberg. We all know that traffic on that section carries loads destined for both PE and Cape town. This lack of policing is surely unacceptable with the driver behavior on our roads.

NO PULLING WOOL OVER READERS’ EYES

Champion sheep shearers, December 3 — so now we are going to “sheer” the sheep. Very deep indeed!

LAWYERS’ DOUBLE STANDARDS

So Lungisa is to appeal again against his conviction. Strange that I did not hear or see a person from the judiciary sympathising against the sentence handed down to Vicki Momberg. Let’s remember that she used the K-word and not a jug to commit grievous bodily harm, which could have been attempted murder or just plain murder. This convicted criminal should be in jail serving time. It is disgusting to read that all these learned lawyers and advocates would side with him.

TAKE AWAY VOTING RIGHTS TOO

Regarding the Max prison nightmare, I think conditions befit the inmates. I additionally would love to take away your voting rights, which further helped the corruption in this country.
