SMOKING BAN

Something good has come out of the cigarette and tobacco ban, and I’m over the moon. After smoking for more than 10 years, my daughter has announced that she has quit smoking. The reason being that she will never get the brand she smokes from the shops who are still selling during the lockdown. Amen to that.

Overjoyed The government is losing approximately R3bn to R4bn a month in tobacco and liquor non sales. Just think what this would do to fight the dreaded virus. No brainer.

APPLAUD CHAMBER

As a caring citizen of PE I believe that the CEO of the Nelson Mandela Bay Business Chamber — Nomkhita Mona and her board members under the chair of Dr Andrew Muir and their team need to be publicly applauded for all they have done to prepare our city for the onslaught of the Covid19 pandemic! The manner in which they have cleaned up three major government hospitals, how the MD of VW, Thomas Schaefer, has not only provided the premises, but also secured over R100m from the German government to refurbish a warehouse in Neave Township that will serve as a hospital for 4,000 Covid 19 patients. I fervently believe, that the business chamber, its members and all who have supported these projects, at a very difficult time, need to be not only recognised but also publicly thanked!

KINGS NOT GOOD ENOUGH

No offence to the Southern Kings players, but George Byron has written more articles concerning the Kings in the past number of weeks especially about salaries not being paid than positive results on the field of play. In fact, there are more articles on sport published now during lockdown than when all the teams were competing against each other. Long story short, the Kings are just not good enough to compete in the PRO14 competition. In my opinion they should go back to club rugby and work their way up the divisions and play and get paid what they’re worth. They haven’t won a game in ages but with all the news published about the Kings you would think they were topping the log in their section. Let’s get realistic because it’s beginning to embarrass some of our supporters. To the Kings players, I know you don’t select yourselves and I hope you as a team find some success in the future.

Greg B George Byron, give us some honest and professional journalism on the Kings funding. How can they require R6m more for paying out salaries on the 25th? What happens next month? Give us the truth.

Ratepayers cough up. How can we the ratepayers of the metro once again be ripped off? The metro council once again helps the losing Isuzu Kings. How can this be possible when we are facing a severe drought? Surely the monies could be rather used to repair our water leaks than supporting a team that can’t even draw 2,000 supporters?
