We’ll deal with Zungu’s criticism of Bafana coach on his return — Jordaan

- Marc Strydom

The SA Football Association (Safa) will wait for Frenchbased Bongani Zungu to return to the country before dealing with the comments he made about Bafana Bafana coach Molefi Ntseki.

Safa president Danny Jordaan said he had spoken to Zungu on the phone‚ and that the player had apologised for his comments.

Jordaan said Safa could broker a meeting to mend the relationship‚ should that be necessary‚ between the Amiens SC midfielder and Ntseki.

Zungu criticised the coach after he was left out of Bafana Bafana squad in March for the Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers against Sao Tome and Principe.

The games were ultimately postponed.

After Ntseki’s surprise omission of the in-form midfielder, Zungu sarcastically tweeted “wow”‚ accompanied by a laughing emoji.

Last month, Zungu said in an interview with Robert Marawa on the internet-based MarawaTV that he had been shocked at being left out of the national team.

“I don’t want to tell you what he said‚ but of course he [Zungu] did apologise,” Jordaan said in a Zoom media conference with the SA Football Journalists Association.

“And we will deal with the matter when he’s back in South Africa.”

Jordaan continued: “And sometimes players cannot deal with the disappointment once they get dropped.

“And he was very clear he did not expect to be dropped. It was a huge shock for him.”

“We’ll wait until Bongani gets home. He wants to come home.

“When he comes we’ll get Ntseki and we’ll deal with the matter.
