DON’T KNOCK RADEMAN AND MALLETT

Jing, I agree wholeheartedly with your Chirp, “Rugby on the skids”, except for you referring to EPRU president Andre Rademan as lining his pockets. Our president is a self-made millionaire and has been a successful businessman for a number of years. He purely earns a small stipend, like every other president within Saru. Once the real reasons for the shock resignation of Bantwini Matika are revealed, the integrity of Rademan will once again be displayed. Let’s all stand together while our union and country are experiencing a crisis.

Badger Bantwini Matika has labelled Nick Mallett a product of racist rugby. Mallett has yet to stand accused of any shady dealings after more than 30 years in rugby administration and coaching. Matika and others face fraud allegations from EPRU. What system are they products of?

Mike Well said, “Grandpa of Port Elizabeth”. The contract with the SPCA in Uitenhage is not honoured and the staff and animals suffer. But we, the ratepayers, can afford to pay the Kings R12m. It is disgraceful and the council should hang their heads in shame.

ZILLE GOT IT RIGHT

Some bonehead, criticising Helen Zille’s correct observations, said that with the virus we are dealing with an uncontrollable, deadly disease. Really — 250 deaths in six months is uncontrollable? Whatever he is smoking, I want five bags of it. Please confiscate his pen as he is subtracting from the sum of human knowledge. But this is the kind of opinion you get under SA education.

Ivan Skovar I must agree with Helen Zille’s comments regarding the lockdown regulations. I think I will vote DA again ... in spite of the dirty windows.

CYRIL’S MISSED OPPORTUNITY

Angie Motshekga typifies the ineptitude of ministers in the government. Cyril Ramaphosa missed a golden opportunity at the commencement of this pandemic. Why didn’t he invite leaders of the opposition to help him in the National “Coronations” Council? True to the ANC way of operating, he filled it with his substandard ANC ministers.

Carol The Covid-19 pandemic and lockdown is airing the dirty laundry of the ANC government in all its departments to the world. I hope we voters will remember this when election time comes around because it is us who put them in power in the first place. The stink is unbearable.

LAGARDIEN RAMBLE

Enough of Ismail Lagardien and his rambles. Statements are made, then heavily qualified. “Remittances and assistance” to survive, clothe and educate, are likely from tax collection (social grants), and employment wages. Surely then, it is logical that the economy now takes precedence? I’m still scratching my head over the context of flushing toilets.

Catherine Ismail Lagardien, you speak of the “white middle classes”. Why don’t you ever refer to the black and white middle classes? Perhaps the black outnumber the white in this regard.

SOUNDS LIKE A RUBBISH STORY

I refer to the May 18 letter about rubbish being back on the pavements. Yes, most flats have a bin area or/and a yard, but also security gates, which means that refuse collectors cannot enter the premises. And yes, our body corporate appointed a person to oversee collection twice a week at certain times. Therefore the bags are taken outside in time for collection without any problems. Just wondering, are these the only areas mentioned where it happens? And I wonder how one can judge a person by his rubbish? To me it sounds like a “rubbish story”.

Sydenham resident Re “Dishing up dirt”: In the complex I stay in, our bins are locked inside and only get opened a few minutes before collection time, so I would not put the blame on bag scratchers. I know for a fact it is the municipal guys who are leaving the rubbish behind.

STILL NO ACTION ON LEAKS

Fresh water running in the streets and our dams are running dry. There has been a water leak since February at the corner of Kamesh and John Dissel Drive in Gamble township. Can you please attend to it, Mr Councillor of that ward?

ADN, Uitenhage In The PE Express, Andile Lungisa says that under his leadership never have so many water leaks been fixed. Mr Lungisa, it is because of your poor leadership that so many water leaks occurred. Now you brag of how many leaks accumulated under your supervision, or lack thereof. Your socalled plumbers passed some water leaks in my area saying they were too difficult to fix. In the meantime, thousands of litres of water is wasted.

L McLeod Water leaks at the bridge between Veeplaas and Magxaki have been going on for about four years.

RATES BILL HEADACHE

No municipal accounts and offices are still closed. Are they not important? We use services daily. When I phone the answering service says need a password. Since when? Markhams and Truworths send accounts via SMS. Help me. I know they said Absa Bank, but how do I know what amount to pay without an account?
