Sobetwa to showcase debut album in virtual concert
Idols SA 2018 winner Yanga Sobetwa will on Friday night treat her fans to a virtual concert of her album Promised Land.
The songstress has taken what was meant to be a physical tour of her debut album and turned into a once-off Instagram and Facebook show for fans across the world to experience at the same time.
Cape Town and Port Elizabeth fans of Sobetwa were lucky to catch the first two legs of the tour in their cities in January and February respectively.
She joins a string of local and international artists who warmed up to the crowded virtual space due Covid-19 prevention measure.
“I am doing this live concert/unplugged session because before Covid-19 I was busy with a tour so the pandemic had a huge impact on the continuation of the tour.
“I then decided to do it unplugged as a continuation of the tour in a way.
“It doesn’t require to go from province to province but it does give people a live experience of Promised Land, which I enjoy as a performer,” Sobetwa said.
The singer is offering the online concert free of charge.
“By doing this more people will enjoy without the cost [of attending a show] in a physical venue.
“This will be a free show and all people need to do is just buy data and follow my social media accounts,” she said.
Sobetwa released Promised Land in May last year, about five months after winning the 14th season of Idols SA at the age of 17 and signing with Gallo Music.
Thoughthis year has brought many plans to a halt, the year got off to a good start for the singer who bought a house for her family in February before the Port Elizabeth leg of her Promised Land tour.
The Capetonian singer shared the Port Elizabeth stage with Bay singer Amanda Black and Mthatha trio 047 at The Gallery, in Produce Street.
