There has been a huge outpouring of support from rugby fans for Peter de Villiers to be crowned as the EP Elephants head coach after he appeared before the selection panel.

Hundreds of supporters took to social media to voice their backing for the former Springbok coach, who is among five candidates for the post.

Vying with de Villiers for the job are Ricardo Loubsher, Deon Kayser, Jonathan Mokuena and Kevin Musikanth, who have all submitted impressive CV s.

He [De Villiers] will turn them [EP] into a rugby playing machine, ” rugby fan Bennett Bailey wrote on the Herald’s Facebook page.

The selection panel, which comprised Maasdorp Cannon (chair), Zola Yeye, Qondakele

Sompondo, Jaco Kirsten and Yoliswa Lumka, are expected to deliver their verdict early next week.

Outspoken former Springbok coach Peter de Villiers appeared apprehensive when he arrived for his interview to become the next EP Elephants head coach on Wednesday.

Smartly dressed in a leather jacket, with his trademark moustache neatly groomed, De Villiers appeared apprehensive as he entered Imatu House in Sydenham to face the interview panel.

After news broke that De Villiers had appeared before the panel, fans took to social media to voice their support for the man known as Snorre. ”

Good coach. I like him, wishing him the best. I miss rugby in PE,” Lynden Meyers commented.

I really hope and pray we make the prudent choice and use you sir,” wrote Sergio Williams.

Mike Moore took issue with De Villiers for wearing a leather jacket to the interview.

If you are going to an important interview, you don’t wear a leather jacket,” he wrote.

Kevin Mothersole responded by saying: “Not matter what the candidate wears, as long as the right person is selected for the job.

“The province needs a worthy coach to take the team forward and for everybody to be proud of the team.”

Rugby supporter Warren Van Eck commented: “Seriously can’t understand the negative comments.

“It ’ s not like we have a long list of coaches lining up to coach this franchise who have his amount of expertise and accolades.

“I personally hope he gets the job.

“Will be interesting to see what happens.”

Craig Simpson felt De Villiers could put pride back in the EP jersey.

He wrote: “Not a bad choice to lead EP out of the doldrums. Transformation! ”

Gillian Pullen commented: Imagine looking at EP rugby over the last two decades and thinking you can turn your nose up at PDV.”
