Focus on local to improve soccer
Our local soccer has come under scrutiny because of dubious blunders we often endure to sacrifice our well-being in the name of the beautiful game.
The PSL and SA Football Association have created an European ideology to influence our beloved game and that has badly affected our morale and our culture of doing things.
This starts from club level on how they perceive themselves to succeed in their own way of doing things.
The greatest achievement in our soccer is to play overseas and top clubs value foreign coaches more than locals.
The same foreign coach that will compromise the club’s identity because he will want overnight success, while club bosses breath down their necks to make them deliver.
No foreign or local coach has spent a decade in one club thus far; imagine how this affects players psychologically.
Local coaches feel disrespected in most local clubs, but these coaches are familiar with the local philosophy and know the expectations of the clubs.
Most of these locals have the same qualifications as their foreign counterparts, but don’t get much acknowledgment.
In addition, the PSL contemplates VAR implementation because it is obviously used in Europe despite much outcry about the technology.
We really need to divert from the foreign influence and start to do things on our own to grow.
All our soccer governing bodies have billions in their coffers but don’t want to invest in the game and improve the standard of our soccer.
We hosted a successful 2010 Fifa World Cup and that was a monumental milestone to test our potential against the world.
We need that fire to improve our soccer.
