President’s concern the future of his party
Can we trust the president with our future knowing that for nine years he was President Zuma’s deputy and escaped censure for the corruption that was taking place?
He appears more concerned about the future of the ANC than the dire conditions the country finds itself in.
The consequences of the Eskom and Andre de Ruyter fiasco are the sole responsibility of the government and ANC.
Lest we forget, since 1994 the ANC has been the official government solely responsible for appointing the people who governed, and for the results of any decisions taken during this period.
Regrettably their politicians have shown an unhealthy willingness to protect the party and any criminal indiscretions of its members.
They are experts at playing the victim and resorting to the blame game to escape their moral obligations, in my view.
Theirs is a sad history of lost opportunities and wasteful expenditure resulting from their many failures over the years. It was this government which spent R510m on an aircraft so President Thabo Mbeki could fly in comfort while he swanned around Africa.
At that time certain members of the government were implicated in a corruption scandal involving Iraq in the UN Oil-for-Food venture.
In 1999, several members of government, including our president, were implicated in the arms deal corruption scandal which cost the country about R30bn, and provided little benefit.
Travelgate came and went without causing the ANC any real embarrassment. The involvement of Chancellor House in the construction of the Kusile and Medupi power stations, which benefited the ANC financially, was unforgivable and added billions of rand to the final costs. Worse was still to come. Having spent millions of rand on the Zondo commission, and despite the denials and attempts to hide the alarming facts around state capture, the government is yet to successfully prosecute anyone involved in the report.
Hopefully the majority of the voters will punish the ANC at the polls in 2024, and a strong leader will emerge.
