Bigger, better Splash Festival
Get ready to experience the thrill and excitement of the 31st edition of the Nelson Mandela Bay Splash Festival.
One of the biggest events on the city’s calendar, the Splash Festival will return to the Kings Beach precinct over the Easter weekend from April 7-10 and promises to deliver a variety of first-class entertainment.
This year Splash will feature four performance stages, with the main stage located on the grass patch in front of the Super Tubes. Other stages will be set up for the food court, the beer tent, and food demonstrations and for the comedy.
The entertainment line-up is star-studded, with performances from comedian Celeste Ntuli, homegrown rapper Biggie, singer Nkosazana Daughter, food writer and award-winning cookbook author Zola Nene, My Kitchen Rules contestants Tim and Shireze, and flamboyant TV and radio broadcaster Spitch. Plus, there will be a variety of local artists adding to the excitement.
On Friday afternoon the Splash will host a wrestling extravaganza when the giants from CPW Wrestling take to the ring. Suplexes, powerbombs and clothelines – wrestling fans will get to see it all.
Festival goers will also be able to catch the national Volleyball SA Championship broadcast on SuperSport at the Galaxy Bingo Beach Arena, where there will also be beach stalls, sand artists, and a performance by Gqeberha favourite Gino Fabbri.
Headlining on Sunday is singer, songwriter, restauranteur, and television personality J’Something, who will perform twice. First, in the newly sponsored Spar Food Tent, where he will show off his gastronomical skills, before joining local act Jay Em on the main stage to perform some of his greatest hits.
If you’re a foodie, you won't want to miss the Spar Food Tent, where there will be various cooking demonstrations and stand-up comedy in the evenings.
And for the little ones, there’s the Fun 4 U Fairground, the Easter Egg Hunt, and EGGLAND, which will host multiple activities for children, including Eggstacle, Catch-The-Egg, Egg Relay, and Smash-The-Egg.
And if that’s not enough, there will be plenty of stalls and crafts, as well as a wine, gin, and craft beer bar, where you can sample the best drinks from local microbrewers and distillers.
The Splash Festival is a key highlight of Nelson Mandela Bay’s season, and this year it promises to be even more exciting than ever before. So, mark your calendars now and make sure you don't miss out. Entry to the festival is free, and gates open at 9am every day with the entertainment on each of the stages kicking off at 11am.
