EP want to get back to winning ways

- George Byron

EP want to get back to winning ways and avoid ring rustiness when they face the Leopards in a Currie Cup First Division rugby match in Despatch on Saturday, Elephants manager Rafiek Hermans says.

The men in red and black hoops will be desperate for the points on offer after slipping to third in the six-team log after losing their last match against the SWD Eagles in Riversdale.

When the teams clashed in an opening round fixture in Potchefstroom in February, EP ran out convincing 30-16 winners.

EP co-captains Diego Williams and Sherwin Slater will have big roles to play in ensuring their team enters the game with the correct mindset.

EP have not been in action for three weeks after their last scheduled game against Zimbabwe’s Goshawks, scheduled for April 1 at the Adcock Stadium, was cancelled.

“The break has been too long and after our recent performances we wanted to play again so that we could fix our problem areas, especially from the SWD match. The squad is looking forward to this coming weekend to play against the Leopards,” Hermans said.

“We know we can play better than what we produced in the last two games.

“Our focus is to make sure we get back to winning ways and gain points to finish as high as possible on the log standings.

“We request that people come out and support the team.” First Division and Mzansi Challenge fixtures: Friday: SWD Eagles vs Falcons Saturday: San Clemente Rhinos v Kenyan Simbas, EP Elephants vs Leopards First Division log (SA teams only, matches played in brackets): Boland 22 (5), Falcons 22 (6), EP Elephants 18 (6), SWD Eagles 18 (6), Leopards 11 (5), Border Bulldogs 1 (6).
