It has been 75 years since William Scott Contracts opened their doors in Gqeberha, and the family behind the successful business is both humbled and grateful for all they have accomplished.

As the company reaches this milestone, it is easy to see that no business succeeds for 75 years without being exceptional at what they do, and William Scott is a testament to that.

Longevity takes perseverance, hard work and commitment to quality service, three things the staff at William Scott embody.

In 1948, Scottish immigrants William and Myra Scott opened the doors to William Scott Contracts out of a single-roomed office at the bottom of Albany Road, after young William showed an exceptional talent in all fields of paintwork.

With Myra’s typewriter propped up on a milk crate doing the invoicing, and William doing all the paint and roofing work, the business began its generational journey.

Today, William and Myra’s son, Cameron, directs William Scott Contracts, aided in daily operations by his sons, Andrew, Duncan, and Justin, who have been involved in the third-generation family business since 2007.

The current generation have all worked in various construction roles overseas, gaining an international perspective in various areas of industry expertise and best practices.

Alongside their dedicated staff, whom Cameron describes as the company’s life force, the Scotts believe that the key to success and a strong business, is a sense of pride in the quality of workmanship and customer service provided, embodying an ethos of “family values applied to international standards”.

William Scott specialises in a wide range of services, including painting, roofing, re-roofing, waterproofing, asbestos removal, spalling repairs and epoxy flooring.

Though they also undertake quality residential projects, their primary focus has evolved towards medium to large-scale commercial, industrial, and body corporate contracts.

With an unwavering commitment to delivering the highest quality finishing services, William Scott ensures that construction and refurbishment projects are completed to the highest standards.

William Scott prioritises the safety and efficiency of their team by investing in cutting-edge painting and roofing technology, and providing comprehensive safety training to all 150 members.

In addition to training, the company has equipped their team with varied access equipment, including aerial lifts, suspended platforms, scaffolding, and rope access solutions, which minimises disruptions and ensures maximum efficiency and safety on construction sites.

Furthermore, William Scott has earned letters of good standing with SA Revenue Service (Sars) and COIDA, and every project includes a mandatory safety file process and sign-off, demonstrating their commitment to the safety of their team, clients’ property, staff, and customers.

Clients can rest assured that safety is a top priority for William Scott.

In a constantly changing world, William Scott Contracts is fulfilling precisely what they set out to achieve in 1948; making sure your buildings look and feel good through quality painting, roofing, waterproofing and epoxy flooring services, and doing it right.
