State prosecutor Vicky Rossouw, who has been charged with failing to report the sexual assault of a minor, made her first appearance in the Humansdorp Magistrate’s Court yesterday, where her matter was postponed to July.

Rossouw, who was arrested in November last year, and had skipped several court appearances by submitting a sick note each time, finally presented herself to the same court she has been working at for years.

She was arrested following allegations she had been informed of the alleged rape of a Paradise Beach teen as early as

January 2021, but had not informed authorities.

After her arrest, Rossouw, who has worked for the state for more than 33 years, denied the allegations.

She was released on warning following her first appearance.

It is alleged she had been contacted by the father of the victim, who asked her for advice as he suspected his 19year-old stepson had raped his half-sister.

The man and his stepson were arrested in September last year, and face a slew of charges including the creation, possession and distribution of child pornography, rape, grooming, sexual assault and incest.

They were both denied bail after graphic evidence was led during their formal bail applications.

The man’s 39-year-old wife and mother of both the stepson and daughter, was arrested shortly thereafter, and charged with rape and failing to report the sexual assault of a minor.

It is alleged she knew about the rape and sexual assault of her daughter since 2019, but did nothing about it.

She has since abandoned her bid for bail.

The three are expected back in court in June, while Rossouw is expected back in court on July 21 for copies of the docket to be made available to the defence.
