- Herald Correspondent

A great turnout is expected on Freedom Day for the annual City Lodge Hotels 3 Beaches Challenge which starts at Pollok Beach at 9am today.

The unique swim-run event sees participants racing from Pollok to Kings Beach.

The race categories include individual, duo and quad (team of four) sections.

Entrants will swim from Pollok to Hobie Beach (1.6km), exiting the water to run around a beach transition, then swim to Humewood Beach (800m), complete another beach transition, and then swim to Kings Beach (1.1km), before running back to the start.

“This is one of the most exciting beach events on our calendar and eagerly supported by the City Lodge Hotels Group which has no fewer than four hotels along the stretch of beachfront the participants will cover,” Zsports Events SA owner Michael Zoetmulder said.

“With the format of teams, this event is appealing and achievable to all and we are looking forward to another great attendance on Thursday morning.”

Online entries were open till midnight last night and manual late entries will be accepted at Pollok Beach from 7.30am today, but a late entry fee will apply.

All the early bird entrants received a branded PVC drybag which can be collected on race day and all finishers will receive a finisher’s gift and an ice-cold aQuellé refreshment.

The top three individual entrants and winning teams will receive prizes on the day, with great lucky draws also up for grabs.

See www.zsports.co.za/3beaches for further information, course map and online late entry opportunity.
